Networking Capability is one reason I bought the Optibox Raptor. I have been wanting a fta receiver that can record and store a reasonable amount of tv programs. My Raptor has high speed record capability and a decent amount of storage area with an internal WD 1 tb hard drive installed. Now we need to connect it to other devices so the Raptor's hard drive can be shared

I wanted to connect the Raptor to a desktop computer that has a decent sized hd monitor plus two other computers. Video and other files will need to be transferred between all of these computers. This setup may sound complicated but it is real easy to do.

The Raptor's Ethernet is connected to a wireless router that is configured as an access point. The rest of the computers in the system are connected to the access point using wireless connections. FileZilla is installed on all of the computers, which gives all of the computers access to the Raptor's hard drives.

This networking system has not been running long, but I have tested it and I am very pleased with the way it performs. All three computers have been connected to the Raptor at the same time without problems. Simultaneous file transfers between two computers and the Raptor have taken place without any issues.

Transfer speed in this network varies. I have seen transfer speeds as high as 3.0MB with a computer that is close to the Raptor, and speeds as low as 68KB between the Raptor and the computer that is located about 500 feet away from the Raptor.

Having a receiver that can do these kind of things is great. The Raptor has an excellent blind scan and produces one of the best hd pictures I have seen. But I bought it to do more than just to scan and watch tv. I wanted a receiver that is packed with features and the Raptor has them!

More on this as it progresses.

I would also like to say Thanks to eastof111 who has been helping with the networking issues and for finding some channel editors that work on the network. EB

EB...

You can also use your web browser and type:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Afterwards you will have a nice gui of the directories. If you go to the storage directory and select an HD or USB1 etc., then double click on the TS file, a popup will ask if you want to save to your PC or play with Media Player. At least that's the way my PC is configured. Other PCs may be different. Media player will only play the TS file if you have the appropriate codecs installed on your computer.

Still learning.

Very Good!

Now we need to find a media player and the proper codecs that can be uploaded here and at other sites. Got any ideas on that?

Ms Media Player should work. For free codecs do a google for K-lite codec pack. For better codecs you will have to purchase separately. I am sure some others can come up with some.

You are looking in the wrong folder!

Look in STORAGE/HDD/Recordings/

You can also download and install FileZilla. This is a free program that can be found with a Google search.

The web interface plugin also has options for transferring recorded files. You may find the web interface plugin in the link listed below.

When I use that path (either web or ftp path) it requires a password. I've tried leaving it blank, using root, using anonymous and it refuses to change to that directory.
Is there a password that I haven't tried or maybe it is a setting it my wireless router it connects to? I've also tried Filezilla with the same result. - It refuses to see STORAGE/HDD/Recordings/
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Loging for FileZilla. (All characters are lower case.)

Username = root
Password = root

Let us know if it does not work.

Thanks EB.
That worked. I needed to delete /root and replace with /STORAGE as well as use the PW and User root.

Any idea what setting I am missing or not doing right in order to see the video when I run the web video plugin? I can see everything fine on my TV that I am doing when I use the remote with the plugin and and on the computer except the video feed.
Also when trying to capture a screen image using the check mark button it does not create a screen capture.
Thanks for your help.

That plugin does not show any video or capture any received satellite images. It will capture the menus and not much of anything else.
You do have network capabilities and the ability to reboot the receiver. You can also see the menus if the receiver decides to boot in PAL.

Do you know of a program or plugin that will do what I want to do? I don't necessarily need it to stream video. If I could at least do a screen capture with the video showing a quality screen capture would work.
Thanks for all your help. I am really liking the Raptor. Picture quality is outstanding and having 2 tuners with 1 hooked to a Ku dish and the other to my C band with no switches to deal with is GREAT!

You can capture anything that is superimposed on the tv screen. A single jpeg picture is taken and stored in the www folder of var. This single picture is replaced every time you take another snapshot.

Any streaming would have to be done with the Enigma software. You can run Enigma on the Raptor using an usb stick if you have an esata hard drive installed.

You can open the timeshift file over the network and pause and screencap anything.

You won't get the onscreen menus though.

keep experimenting

Will this work with the Anaconda? I can get everything but the storage. Have typed it 8 ways from sunday...but no storage. My hard drive comes in as USB2. Any help is appreciated, i like this box!

You can use FileZilla or the webinterface to access files on your hard drive.
The receiver is recognizing your hard drive as USB2 because the drive is connected to USB port#2. EB

Try entering this into your computer's browser: ftp://192.164.XXX.XX/STORAGE/

I looked at FileZilla. Clicking on the main folder at the very top and then scrolling through the folders led me to storage. Remote site in FileZilla = /STORAGE

Ok I located it in filezilla. that was great. But when I copy the address of it to google chrome it still doesn't come up in window...just "site not found". thank you for your help...I want to be able to stream to computer and i hope to use time shift file to do so.

Also I used e2 on it and got it to work. I created xml sat file ...how can that be added to E2.
Also How do you edit E2, can you add things and recompile, I can boot my computer to unbuntu. but the file is an .img.
this site is great and you are a wealth of knowledge, again thank you for your time and patience!!!!

Google Chrome??? No.
Type the ftp address that I provided into your web browser. The ftp address that I provided should take you to the receiver's storage. Be sure to use your actual box instead of the x's.

I support E2 in the Raptor. I do not support E2 in the Anaconda because I do not have an Anaconda.
Setting you up with a satellite file for E2 is no real problem. Start a thread on it in the Anaconda section and I will help you with the sat file. EB

The anaconda and I assume the raptor have a selection under storage for a network drive. You have to type in the address for that drive.

Can I use a hard drive on my computer connected to the network with the Anaconda as a network drive. My Computer has 2 hard drives in it>>>>C and F. Obviously C is system use. F I use to record video etc. I have that drive setup on my computer as a "network " drive in that any one on my network can see it and access it. The address they use is //smith-hp/f/ and it pops up on their screen. However if I type that into anaconda for Network drive location it doesn't find it.
So 1. Can Anaconda use a spare internal on a computer that is networked to the STB as a network drive.
2. if it can what do you type in to find it.

Thanks so much...learning more about this rec everyday and really coming to appreciate all it can do.

I don't have an Anaconda, but attached are files 1_Network_functions.pdf and
2_How_to_use_dlna.pdf which indicates the Raptors capabilities and I would think they would work for the Anaconda.

For data transfers, Filezilla is the easiest to use. For media, I just use XBMC portable or Plex Media Server or Media Portal which communicate very well with the Raptor. I have also used others such as Wild Media Server, Nero Media Home, plus others, but they're not free. If you need more info on these, let me know.

I have not recently tried the Raptors storage manager>network drive>network setting in a long time because it was not working at the time I purchased my unit. If you do try it and it is working, would be great if you did a post.

I did get it to network and record to my computer hard drive. I used PDF 1 above and worked right thru it.

I went in to "My computer" and selected my spare hard drive : " f " . i then right clicked on it and brought up properties......Share..... and added "everyone" as person that could have access. I then set the parameters for "everybody" to be able to do all. I then exited out and went to Anaconda and typed the following on the network drive address 193.167.254.25/f. Recognized it right away and off i went. 193.167.254.25 is the address of my computer and f is the letter of the drive. Anaconda created a record folder, and began recording time shift and recordings there. Thank you soooo much for your help.
