View Full Version : Raptor Blind Scan Speed and Other Issues?

After having tested a Gekko (thank you), I'm looking at the Raptor and know much of it is the same as the Gekko. My question is the Gekko had a very long blind scan (30 min), and often the scan would crash requiring a re-boot. Does the Raptor with it's current FW have this problem?
Other Gekko issues was that 1.2 sat positions were automatically assigned numerically and could not be changed. Also You could not add or delete sats, just edit existing ones or fill in the few blank sats provided.

EDIT: I should add that I reviewed the Gekko in April, I hope some of this stuff has ben corrected on all of the Optibox products since then.

The Raptor is my best blind scan receiver for finding transponders. Most of the Raptor blind scan times for me are comparable to the Ali receivers. The Raptor will take a few minutes longer on some satellites in crowded parts of the arc, but most satellites can be scanned in the 3-6 minute range. The Raptor never had the blind scan problem(s)of the Gekko and Anaconda with 2011 or 2012 firmware.

Current Optibox firmware does not have provisions to set diseqc 1.2 positions. There is a free stand alone channel editor that allows the diseq 1.2 positions to be set. I do not believe you ever used this editor with the Gekko. The channel editor works through ftp once you put the Raptor on a network. Or you can save the edited channels to an usb drive and load them in the receiver via usb. You may download the free channel editor and look at it. I have a channel file you can load on it if you want to see how it works. This free editor is as good or better than SetEdit. But it will not let you import from other brands or makes of receivers like SetEdit will.

Icecrypt has firmware that allows the setting of diseqc 1.2 positions, and this is the firmware I normally run. I think diseqc 1.2 positions are limited to 58 per tuner. I have asked for this 1.2 diseqc feature to be added to Optibox, but I have not seen it in any updates yet.

Satellites can be added but they cannot be taken away. Go figure that one. There is a file here for Optibox that has 160 satellites in it, but I have not found a way to delete any of them yet.

Thanks for the reply, sounds good on the blind scan.
I've read much of what has been posted here but still a few questions. How many 1.2 sat positions can be programed in, I have about 68 on my present receiver.
Also can it do any demod rates higher than 8psk?
In your post you mentioned Icecrypt FW, Are you running this on the Raptor?

You can program in 58 diseqc 1.2 positions. No more than that at this time.
You will have to point me to a channel that is 16psk or higher and I will check it. I do not know it it will do anything other than 8psk.
Remember, it does not do the AAC radio channels on 139West either. I do not listen to those channels anyway but you might.
Yes, you can run Icecrypt and a whole list of other firmwares in the Optibox. There is not much of a reason to do this unless another firmware has a specific feature that you want. Running a different firmware is easy to do.

Ok, well can I run two tuners, say one connected to C, the other Ku, and get 58 positions per tuner?
I could get 139 when I put my dish in 29 years ago, but the neighbors trees across the street grew a little taller, I can still get 137. Seems I have run into some aac audio elsewhere, but don't remember, not that much up there except 139. I work at a radio station and hear 139C all day, don't need it at home.
16psk: there are a some up there and more showing up, My Manhattan can get these. My wife is hogging the tv to watch the Olympics, I'll post the 16psk feeds later.

Send me a diagram or a spreadsheet of your 63 positions and I will try to research the options for it.
I have never tried what you are asking, and I do not know if it will work but I will try to test it. I need to see what diseqc 1.2 positions you have assigned again.

EB,

Took a while to get back to you on this. There used to be quite a few feeds at 16APSK, mostly horse racing. But Dish network took over "Roberts" most are gone now. But asking around I find they come up occasionally on 95w Cband. There is one that is up most of the time from Rideau Carlton Raceway in Ontario. Has promos for their casino in the day, horse racing at night. I was able to lock this in on my Manhattan this morning.

Gal 3 95w

DVB-S-2(16APSK)

You may have to tweak your TP freq +/- a MHz to get this to lock.

Since there is not much of these feeds up anymore it may be a moot point whether the Raptor can get them.
