I was over at the HDMU forum and someone inquired about using a plugin for viewing IPTV streams like we can with the regular firmware. The answer that came back was to add an IPTV bouquet to your bouquet lists. A bouquet file with German streams was included.

Here is an example of the format:

#NAME IPTV English (TV)
#SERVICE 4097:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:rtmp%3a//whdh.mpl.miisolutions.net/whdh-live01 pageUrl=[Only registered and activated users can see links] swfUrl=[Only registered and activated users can see links] playpath=mp4%3a7newslive:WHDH-7 News
#DESCRIPTION WHDH-7 News
#SERVICE 4097:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:rtmp%3a//video2.earthcam.com/fecnetwork pageUrl=[Only registered and activated users can see links] swfUrl=[Only registered and activated users can see links] playpath=AbbeyRoadHD1.flv:Beatles Abbey Road Crossing HD
#DESCRIPTION Beatles Abbey Road Crossing HD

*Notice that all instances of ":" in the urls are replaced with"%3a".

It operates the same as tuning satellite channels and is quite fast. Channel UP/DOWN will go to the next stream in the list. It didn't work on the mms stream that I tried, but http streams that wouldn't work with the Raptor firmware work just fine in E2. I'll let you guys experiment to see what works and what doesn't.

I include an example bouquet of working channels. Have fun!

Anyway, with this development, I find that I am running E2 more than the factory firmware. The streams I've wanted to watch before and couldn't with the factory firmware can now be seen. Also, the aspect ratio can be adjusted in E2 so that the 16x9 streams can appear letterboxed on my CRT multisystem TV. This wasn't possible with the factory firmware.

Also, being able to have multiple bouquets without a 100 channels limit and having a list that is many channels listed vertically instead of four-at-a-time listed horizontally makes it easier to organize and find the channels you want.

To me, the dual operating systems are the beauty of the receiver. E2 has a learning curve for most people. I do think E2 or a better version of E2 will be normal in future fta receivers.

I've been able to dual or triple boot my computers starting with the Commodore 128D to my current PC, so why not my satellite receiver? After all, it's a computer, too.
