OK!! Free shipping is limited to the 48 lower states. Does that means nobody can order out of that?? Or will ship and charge separately?? if so, can a shipping calculator can be provided??

Thanks

What is it that makes this "special edition" from previous x2 ?
Any info about processor speed ?

The hardware was re-designed and they added the wifi plug and antenna as part of the standard package which wasnt include it in the previous version. What I heard is that the new one used the same firmware as the oldest one.

I asked X-Square what is the difference from the first and special and here it is.

1- Blue lights in the front panel (More Nice than green)
2- Included WiFi Dongle (Free inside the box)
3- Full Americas satellite list
4- Update Instruction
5- New Front Panel (Modern Design)

This is all the main points in extra in second generation

How does processor speed effect the performance of an STB?

A faster processor means the receiver can perform tasks such as blind scan faster.

carlos has a good point!... A faster processor won't do much good if there is little to no support.

There are good tester/coders to come up with new and better bin files (see anonymousx or good people from this site on all openbox series)

anonymousx has been anonymous for sometime.

The X5 has a different chip from previous openbox models and none has the source code to make any changes that I am aware of.

All I am saying is do not expect to much support if one chooses to purchase one.

That makes sense. The X2 seesm pretty fast in that regard.

I personally can't compare both until my X2 arrives.. I have the X5, but just from reading it seems to me the X2 is just as fast at a blind scan as the X5.

So my logic would be why not get the X2 that will have some support and is cheaper than the X5.. But that's just the way I see things.

What's your take on the X5? Is that the Eyebox X5? I've been looking at that receiver since I picked up the X2P.

I am still waiting for my X2P to arrive so I can't make any comparisons yet. I am quite impressed with X5 thus far and would recommend it for somebody looking for a real fast blind scan and it doesn't miss tp.

Yes, Eyebox X5 OpenBox X5, same machine just different names.

There are some differences in the two, being X-Square was going to produce and support the box until some issues arose.
My X5 from X People came with NA plug and NA sat list...where the Openbox I don't think is the same.

X-SQUARE decided at this point to focus on the X2...So to me I would rather go with some support than none..we have seen openbox drop support many many times.

As usual another box is on the way....lol

There are very few OPEN channels on Dishnet. Most of the free channels are info channels, although other channels may open on occasion.
You need to look somewhere else if you are wanting to open the encrypted channels because we do not support that here. EB

Fairly new to FTA, but ordered a X2 Special edition box yesterday. I was just given a small 36" Ku band dish and would like to try my luck and see how many FTA channel I can view with this receiver. In the mean time I got to get the pole and dish ready for when the box gets here. What kind of feedhorn is recommended to make this thing work, and what kind of price would I be looking for.

I have to do some researching on FTA satellites and channels that are of the Ku type. My box suppose to be delivered by the 20th of the month. Have to get cracking on my researchs.

Welcome to Legit!
What is the make/model of the 36 inch dish?

ftanut
06-11-2013, 02:50 PM
I thought that it looked small for a 36" dish, so I took the wife's seamstress tape, it actually measures 33"X24", he said that is an old dish left over from when his brother had a subscription to Dishnet and he calls it a "Superdish", he had no use for it he gave the feedhorn away years ago and his wife was tired of looking at it and was in the process of scraping it, he ask me if I wanted it, I said yes so he gave it to me.

Is this dish big enough to be use for FTA purpose, or do I need to look for a bigger dish. According to my research there were two models/types of this dish, a metal one and a fiberglass type. I have a metal type. Hoping that this dish is useable for FTA.

06-11-2013, 06:40 PM
A good Ku fta dish will be slightly diamond shaped. It will be slightly taller than it is wide because the lnb does not sit at the center of the dish.
The Super Dish was designed for more than one lnb and it is supposed to be aimed at the high power Dishnet satellites. The Super Dish will work for fta but it will be a poor performer on some of the weaker satellites.
You may use Almost Any linear lnb with the Super Dish. Be sure to install the replacement lnb in the exact same spot as the original Dishnet lnb. It would probably be best to start a separate thread if you need more help with this dish. EB

el bandido, thanks for the answers. I had the feelings that this dish was too small for FTA usage. Once I get the receiver will try to see if I can capture anything with this dish, if it does not work then there is no choice but to buy a bigger one. In two weeks I should know one way or another, once I buy the right feedhorn to go with it.

el bandido
06-11-2013, 07:35 PM
I would probably start with the ESX 521FE lnb or something similar with that dish. These lnbs are less than 10 dollars on Ebay. BTW, The feed horn is made on the ku lnb except for a precious few.

Found out that the receiver has the April 9, 2013 revision number. Before I do any update of forthcoming softwares, I would like to make a backup of all of the present and original software, such as the "Application 1", "User Database", and "Backup All".

What are the neccessary steps for accomplishing that task for each of the items mentioned above. I noticed that there are some submenus to deal with, such as USB(ROOT), Documents, System, and PS3.

How are those submenus used with the backup procedure of the mentioned items.

Thank You.

Scroll down to the USB Root then to the right and look for <Add New File> Hit OK. Type a name as you wish, Hit OK. Now the new name you just created will be available. Hit OK on the name, system will ask you "Are you sure to backup to this file"??? hit YES and wait to finish. Do the same for Application, User database & Backup

Using the April 9, 2013 software as noted earlier. Tried to a couple of times to set the "Date and Time", but later I noticed that it reverts to a random and oddball time and date. Has anyone else noticed this happening, or is it just me doing something wrong in the time setting procedure.

carlospr43 mentioned and had an attachment for the Satellite and channel list for the USA folks, is that the Satellite and channel list already built into the April 9 revision or is that a different list. Always asking questions and learning at the same time LOL!!!

Thanks.

Other than the case design, is there a difference between the X2 Premium and the Premium II? My premium II will no longer start up past the X2 logo screen, and I tried using the bootloader posted here and it still will not boot.

Both models used different chips, different firmwares etc. They are a completely different boxes. If using the correct bootloader for the PII make sure no cable is connected it to the box (HDMI, RCA or ethernet). Only the null cable to your PC and the right file (326sz_v33_1024.r1689.flash.gz.gro.stp). Sometimes it tooked me several attempts to make it. If time out screen show up you need to start all over again.
