For HDMU there's a backup and restore plugin available that works very well when your receiver crashes. It is available in the plugins download section as iSettings®E2. Haven't checked to see if it's available for PKT.
I made a backup to /autofs/sda1/backup_settings/ which is my internal hard drive. You can select different formats to use for your settings plus schedules.
When my receiver crashed, after much testing plus loading and unloading settings, I rebooted and went through the screen resolution dialogue. Once past that screen, the iSettings®E2 plugin started automatically and searched for the last backup, restored the files and rebooted the receiver. It restored everything, including preferences, all plugins, skins, tuner settings, favorites, etc.
Nice plugin... could have used this earlier and it would have saved me much time and effort when testing. Here's the guide, but it's in Italian. But the actual plugin is in English.
