Qviart Unic Satellite Receiver

UPS just dropped off my new toy. The Qviart Unic satellite receiver which I will be testing out. The stb comes equipped with a remote, batteries, user guide and usb wifi dongle:

The receiver boots in Pal which caused me a bit of a problem since its only other way to get connected to the tv is via Euro scart. I hooked it up to my Sony rear projection and it took several seconds to get it into Ntsc. I factory defaulted several times to figure out how to get it working for us here in NA without a compatible tv. These are the blind steps to get it to Ntsc after it has booted:

bottom arrow 2 times

right arrow 1 time

bottom arrow 1 time

OK

bottom arrow 3 times

right arrow once

These blind steps get you from Pal into Ntsc.

For those wondering about blind scan, the blind search function on the Unic stb works extremely well. Blind search is by no means as fast as the x2 but it's quite fast and doesn't miss any tp. The first part of the blind search scans in all tp and has 2 lists, the other is for new tp. Once it has scanned and listed the tp it then scans each one individually and will also scan any other tp in the memory of that particular satellite. I like what I've seen thus far and I'm quite impressed with tuner sensitivity..........more to follow and I'm open to any inquiries.

The receiver obviously came equipped with a Europen satellite list which I deleted and I am setting up my own list. I have started on c band on the Atlantic side, beginning with Express AM44 at 11w and I've gotten up to Ses 6 at 40.5w. The total cost with shipping was 100 euros($140 CDN). The receiver was shipped out via Ups on Monday from Spain and I received it yesterday afternoon.

By the way, a blind search on Ses 6 at 40.5w took 6 minutes and scanned in 98 tp and 274 channels.

I havent been looking out for them East, maybe if you can give a few tp to test I'll give it a shot. All info for each channel is displayed, for example 1080 and dvb-s2.

Those transmissions are usually random and hard to find. Since the receiver is advertised as 16 and 32 capable, I was hoping during the blind scan, that something would be listed next to the channel found.

On G3C 95W there a few 16/32 Horse racing feeds during the day (on the C band side)

There should be quite a few of the 16apsk feeds on 95w since its Saturday night and there will be lots of horse racing. 3884V-3984V 1035 SR.

I'll keep my eyes open for them and I'll give G3 a shot today. When the receiver is performing a blind search it does show which channels are hd as they are being scanned in/listed.

I will remove the qviart unic receiver from my circular c band feed to my main c band and give G3 a scan to see if I pick up any 16 or 32 apsk tp.

I scanned G3 at 95w and several horse racing feeds did scan in but the receiver doesn't display that information...anything I should be looking out for?

Look for a transponder with a SR of 1000 or less that shows horse racing.

I didn't see any tp with low a symbol rate but then again these are feeds and not always up. I'll keep trying.

I like the picture quality and the internet add ons. The x2 is still a faster and more sensitive blind scan but this receiver does well on both those areas. I've been real busy so I haven't had much time to test it out. I will have much more to report later.

The Undro sounds like a fantastic receiver, but I'm not going to make the mistake of buying one without seeing a hands-on review first. As I said before, just because it has blind-scan doesn't mean it's a GOOD blind-scan. Also, unless I missed it, I didn't see anything in the specs regarding whether it has the ability to stream channels to a computer, a feature my current box has that I'd certainly miss.

Man the more I read about it the more I like it, I am not to picky about the time for blind scan as long as it is accurate and does not miss any TP'S, But we know they miss TP'S.
I ask if there was a video showing the blind scan, but no answer yet.

Here's a site [Only registered and activated users can see links] that did a review of the first XBMC and sat receiver combined. It has about the same speed chip and memory. It did not get the most favorable review, but of course, it did have it's initial growing pains when it first came out.

I would expect the Qviart will be the same, especially since it offers Android in addition to XBMC. After being burnt a few times, I will watch and wait for a review on this one.

I'm finally starting to get familiar with this receiver and I really like it. Aside from awesome picture quality, fast blind scan, quite sensitive tuner, internet features, taking live pictures and much more-this stb is a keeper for me. I have contacted Carlos about the you porn feature not working properly, hopefully future fw will address that issue. The Unic will now become my permanent go to receiver on my circular c band feed. If anybody wants to know more, don't be shy to ask.

As has been posted in the Undro forum, the lack of support for their receivers just leaves me real upset. My e-mails have also gone unanswered. I am using the Unic receiver in combination with my azbox ultra for c band circular sats and will be replacing it once I start testing another receiver. It's a shame though because this stb did have potential.

Sorry to hear that... was hoping Carlos would answer your email. Seems to be a trend in Euro land lately. Recently sent an email to another company requesting testing one of their receivers. Got an initial response of OK. Then when they find out it does not involve a company with deep pockets or media exposure they clam up. I guess their Marketing 101 is totally different from ours.

Just a piss me off East and I really like this receiver. I almost paid full price and duty for it. Carlos told me of future freebies...I guess not. I'll still be testing it out until something new comes along.
