I always wondered what the blinking green dot to the left of the REC icon in the info bar was for. It turns out green means a stable VIX update is available and red means an unstable version is available for downloading.

yes we moved to this stable / unstable updates notification about 2 years ago now.

Green means the update is stable, or that any updates were minor and not system critical so did not require specific testing.
Red means unstable, or that the updates have not undergone as thorough testing as we would have liked, so we recommend caution.

That said even red updates are not to be avoided unless we specifically state so, ( usually with a post on our forum or the twitter account ). As a added security measure we have added a automatic backup feature that by default will create a full settings backup ( can be amended to create a full image backup too ), when you run the online update option in the image. so if something does go wrong you have a new set of backups to fall back on.

you can also see the status of the image via the openvix site ( the globe in the top left corner mirrors the update icon and turns red / green with the images current status ).
