View Full Version : X² PREMIUM III Unboxing

The X² PREMIUM III finally arrived today..It should have been here last week but DHL must be the worst shipping company in the world.
At least it arrived in one piece safe.

It look very sturdy and well built and packaged very professorially. The cover is very strong canvas rather than the cheap plastic most boxes come in. as you can see in the attached pictures it is fully FCC certified and comes with a North American plug, so no need for adapters.

Once again X² has supplied us with two remotes one larger than the other and extras such as a user CD, WiFi antenna for better range and also HDMI and RCA cables, Ethernet wire and your warranty product card.

They have already sent a new file to load to fix issues and I'm sure they will be more on the way soon. As everyone knows new products have bug's and I expect these to be worked out as we move along, Carlos also have an X² PREMIUM III and has been reporting back to X² with his findings.

I should have time later tonight or tomorrow to fire it up and take it for a test ride and will post some screen shots of the menus and report some Blind Scan speed times.

In the mean time here are some pictures of the X² PREMIUM III.

FCC Certified? Lol. Yes, I see the sticker.

Funny that Brian Gohl amd the other Amiko Pirate dealer(s) knocked the X Square for not being certified. Now they are selling non U.S. certified Amikos to pirates! I have yet to see any FCC sticker on an Amiko, and the main U.S./North American market for Amiko is pirates.

I 'm glad someone noticed that..X² went out of their way to make sure the box was fully FCC certified and that caused a good amount of delay for them.
They know the manufacturing plant in China were the Amiko is produced and they only have CE..Not FCC..

They like to say the X² is a pirate box just to try and hurt sales so they can sell more..any FTA box with an internet connection can be used for piracy.
The new A3 is more a pirate box than any other since it comes loaded with XBMC and we all know most people use that for watching Dish network HBO..Cinemax..Starz and so on plus all the pirated movie content that go straight from torrents to XBMC.

They can say..well we don't use it for that and maybe some won't, but I'll bet most will..lol
Our site is TRUE FTA and we use our boxes for legal use only.

No ETA as yet, but I doubt it will be to long..They did say the price will be around $75.00..The X² PREMIUM III is close to double the size of the previous model.

They did not cheap out on this box with HDMI, Component and RCA.. and they know rs232 comes in very handy for a recovery if necessary..

I like the fast scan times Carlos posted. If the scans are accurate, fast and all the other goodies work right out of the box and the price stays close to $75, it will be a killer box.

that is surprising also, since it's based on a different processor.
other receivers don't have them and some rely on usb for disaster recovery.

I started off trying the upgrade by USB with the latest file then I tried the FTP online upgrade. This works very well, see the attached picture.
Then I set up USALS and now doing a blind scan on my KU arc to see how that performs..Once it's done I'll try the DiSEqC function to see how that performs.
I'll post some menu shots a little later.

The Picture quality in both SD and HD is very good I had a quick look at the LPBHD channel on 87W last night and crystal clear.

Will be great to identify and post some TPs with 16/32. There is no way to tell on any of my boxes. If any is within my fixed dishes I can take a look and post some pics if it scan in. I recall rrob tested some on 95W with other Ali boxes and they scan in. The X2 premium II dont. X2 PII isnt an Ali based model. Since the Premium III is also an Ali based Stb I guess it will scan in.

This is a good idea for my friend Costatc to create a on-going post for only 16/ 32 apsk findings

There is a new x2 premium mini for like 55 on amazon. Does anyone know anytthing about it? Sorry if i missed the post about it somewhere.

Also some of these new boxes are coming with copyright protection which means either you can record but only watch on that box...not computer or some other device. If you go to x2 site you will see something like that mentioned for the x2 premium mini ...in display specs youll see 480, 720 1080 , HDCP. In testing x3 im interested in whether you can record and play on computer...especially major network stuff.

I do not see and have not seen anything about failing to record a program due to copyright. Please point me to that information because I have never seen that before on any fta receiver.

I sent an email asking about the copyright protection recording and also about the 16 and 32 apsk capability..

I just did a recording on NHK world on Galaxy 16, LPBHD on SES2 and NBC on AMC 6 They recorded and played back on the Premium lll fine.
I inserted the Pen drive in my laptop and they all played fine.

here it is. You can record on your x2 or receiver. You can play it back on that receiver. Problem happens when you take it by usb to computer. i am not 100 percent sure on this...need you guys to check it out. Over at Ricks there was a guy who posted something similar had happened to him. I'm open to all explanations.

Thanks mountaineer,

If you look at the Premium lll user manual they do list - 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p, 1080i,1080p with
HDCP copy protection.

This why I have asked them for an explanation and also why I tested the recordings to see if there was any problems.
All three played back fine on the Premium lll so I can only assume it should be fine on the Mini..But have no way of testing it since I don't have one...lol

My pleasure,

They still have a some work to on the Premium lll but nothing major, we are just waiting on a new file to test what was sent back for review.
It's far ahead of the Premium ll when it first came out so they are way ahead of the game with Premium lll.

I don't think I would want a receiver that limits playback of my FTA recordings. I hope the copy protection can be deselected.

In my setup, my recordings are sometimes viewed on other devices for convenience. Among the reasons I love my X2 Premium is that it records when scheduled and can be used as a media player for other recordings made on other devices or sources. I don't need Congress to tell me I cannot.

I previously used a microHD receiver that on several occasions decided it would no longer play it's own recordings, just a blue screen that appeared to be fast forwarding. One of the reasons I got rid of it, the other was the timer would routinely miss recordings.

Does the receiver have a bandstacked setting for cband? Also how many satellites can you have selected with channels in them?

cpr43
08-11-2014, 03:41 AM
Hey rrob
I have never used bandstacked before. How it wll show this option on the Lnb freq so I can take a look,

rrob311
08-11-2014, 05:54 AM
In the lnb option section it will say 5150/5750 and/or 5750/5150. The bandstacked option with the x2 doesn't work properly on the blind scan. Like many receivers it double scans the polarities which scans in twice as many channels and transponders that have to be deleted after. For instance, if you scan in 4000h 30000, it will scan in 3400h 30000, and possibly 4600h 30000 etc.

el bandido
08-11-2014, 07:06 AM
IMO,The only way to check the receiver will be with a bandstacked lnb. Even if the settings are there, how do you know they work correctly?

cpr43
08-11-2014, 07:13 AM
No way to test, I dont have a bandstacked, but at least the option is there in the PIII.

I think x2 needs to obtain a bandstacked lnb so they can test it themselves and adjust the firmware as needed. It would probably be easier. It seems a lot of receivers have the same double scanning issue. I could ship them one if it could be shipped within the US. If it needs to be sent to China it would be much easier for them to borrow or get one there. They could kill two birds with one stone. Fix the setting on the x2 and test the new receiver.
