I saw that box on ebay. Says it can do 16apsk. Does not have network plug that I saw. It was calling my name but I couldnt pull the trigger. Love to see your review.....especially if it turn off after a timer recording. I think it has an ali chip and everyone that I know of has that very annoying bug.

Anyway would love to hear a review...might help my trigger finger pull. :)

I only had the opportunity to scan Anik F1R at 107.3w. Of course this receiver booted up in pal and had to revert to my old mini tv to set the proper resolution. It almost seems identical to the openbox/skybox s16 with just the bare bones and yes it as working with an ali chip. Accurate scan(blind) on 107.3w proved to be quite accurate and scanned in under 2 minutes. There aren't enough features on this box to retain it for my main lineup but at under $30, it does the job as well as much higher priced units.

would be worth it just to rip apart to see what makes it tick.

I decided to take this no name box downstairs and have it scan c band satellites with a circular feed. To my amazement it hasn't missed a tp yet and its blind scan is faster then most receivers I have tested, exceptions being x2 premium, x2 premium III, x2 premium mini, golden interstar hd and technomate 5402 m3. It is lacking several things that most receivers have like proper info bar and after I deleted all the Euro/Asian satellites I noticed that I cannot name sats so I'm just setting them up as numbers according to there orbital position. I will attempt to record and upload images of some channels it has scanned in.

Sounds like you got a good deal for 30 dollars even if it's lacking some features.

Can't wait for Brian Gohl, his boy servant Joe, and the other minions to start calling this 30 dollar receiver Illegal.

I managed to figure out the info icon which is identical to the x2 premium and I also figured out how to name my satellites. A scan on the largest c band circular sat on the Atlantic side on an fta scan not all:

Ses 6-40.5w

TV: 130

RADIO: 47

TP: 96

Hey Costactc,

I just bought this box off of E-Bay a few weeks ago and it just arrived today from China. It's the newer 2015 version with a new Novatek 78211 CPU and Rafael Tuner that claims to be one of the most sensitive tuner that you can find anywhere; -10 to -81dbm. I'm interested to try this on my 1.2M C-Band motorized dish to see how well the channels come in. I figured it wouldn't be set up for the US market, so I planned to put everything in manually.
I really appreciate you posting this thread! I'm glad to see such a small cheap little box works so well and it looks like it puts out a very nice picture!
I might post my experiences on the newer box once I have a chance to take it out of the box and dig into it. I only get home for the weekends, otherwise I would be experimenting now with this. :-)
Is this receiver still working pretty good for you? Have you tried recording with it?

Can you test different audio type? Recall rrob got one of this boxes and did have problems with AC3 dolby or AAC audio formats

Ya that looks like the same one I purchased.

I have one that I use outside for dish pointing. Mine doesn't play the AC3 audio like many others have learned. The scanning and picture quality is fine. I only paid $28 for it last Feb.

Anyone have a source for different firmware? I see no way in the menus to save a backup channel list or SW with the level in mine.

I no longer am using this receiver. I have several lying around that I don't use. The only receivers I'm using are the ones below in my signature.

The seller in China told me the receiver I bought has the latest FW, but wouldn't tell me where I could go to look for updates. I would guess that's classified information from the Chinese government. :-D

Try any channel with AC3 audio and see if there is any audio at all!

Interesting the newer models have a Novatek chipset. Mine is definitely Ali based according to the system info screens.

The first thing I did to mine was void the warranty by peeling off the plastic that covered the vent holes.

Hopefully someone test the AC3 and post results. I will be testing one pretty soon.

I will see what I can do. I'm not even sure if it will run my Stab 120 motor to track the arc yet. :-)

I will see what I can do, the specs on the Ebay sellers listing indicates it can do AAC Audio, but no mention of AC3. I won't be home until Friday to start opening up the boxes and hope I didn't get a DOA. Lol! :-)

Good thinking! I should do that. I will post a new thread regarding my new No Name Box. I did pop the hood on it late last night and the board had April 2015 with a new version number. I couldn't verify what the CPU or Tuner was, so will have to take the sellers word, as what he had on his listing. I will post pics in the new thread.

Ok Good. Let us know if you succeed on making a backup of the firmware so we can add it to our files section, Thanks

Bad news I'm afraid. I used another receiver to turn the dish to 99W C-Band, while I hooked up my 2015 No Name China Box through the Loop Out; there's NO audio on AC3 (Dolby D) channels with this newer receiver. Even with the latest FW installed. I couldn't find any AAC audio channels to test, but it's probably the same thing. I don't know if or when I will get any more F/W updates from the seller.

AAC works on the ali3510 predecessor. Check the 3980H 30000 transponder on 97W cband. It has AAC and supposedly 16apsk.

It will be great if they can come up with a fix for the AC3 issue. This is a fine cheap box which really does the job!! I will say to keep sending back request to the seller to see if they do it... someday!!

I did send 2 or 3 messages back to the Ebay seller for any software fixes or updates in the last few months, but no reply at all. I'm beginning to wonder if they already stopped supporting the little receiver and moved on to something else. Either that, I have been hearing many news reports that many multiple Chinese factories have closed down or slowed production due to the unhealthy air quality and the serious downturn of their economy; so that's a possible reason why I haven't heard anything. I really don't know otherwise. It is a pretty nice little box, if only the USALS motor controls could be fixed too. [emoji2]

China takes a long vacation every year around this time.

The AC3 audio may not be licensed. This would explain why it is not available.

There is not much of a way to support these boxes because the retail price is not high enough to support improvements.
