I'd like to add an internal hard drive to my vu+solo2 but not quite sure what would be appropriate. I know EB found one for me about a week ago but I can't find any reference to it. I do not need to go overboard, just the minimum would do. I have an old dell laptop, wondering if I could use its hard drive but it is quite old.

The internal hard drive should be sata, and an old laptop will probably be different. Remove the cover screws for the receiver. (Remove the screws so the cover may be removed easily.) Then take the receiver to Best Buy or a computer store and tell them you need an internal hard drive for it.

The easy way is what EB said. If you're determined to test the lap top drive, pull it and match the connecters to the attached adapter. All you would have to do is leave the bare bones drive next to the receiver without mounting it and just plug it in to the usb port of the receiver.

Forgot to say, if it's an older ide drive you can get an appropriate adapter too.

Buying used hard drives is not a good idea because they may have problems.

Have you tried reading the owner's manual? All you do is remove power and plug it up to the connectors. The cabling should have been including in the receiver's box or inside the receiver.

Thanks Rodder, worked like a charm. I once was fluent in German when I was a kid.

It will probably be a while before that hard drive gets full. You can store over 1,000 images on it with room to spare. Good Work!!!

Shouldn't show up in devices?

The internal drive has to be mounted. Press the record button and try to record a program, or backup an image. Doing that may mount the drive. Or look in the attached Vix manual for mounting instructions.

Very Good!
Make an image backup so you will have a decent restore point.

How do I make an image backup?

Instructions on how to make a backup image are in the Vix manual that I posted in this thread. They wrote that manual very well. Look at it then let us know if you have any questions.

The mounted hard drive looks good! You have a very nice fta system!
