I flashed the latest file as ALL CODE on my x2 III and I bricked it. The display only shows ON and will not connect at all. Any way of unbricking it?

Both do have recovery package using RS232 Null Cable and Com port on your computer. I have sucefully recovered both using these method.

Thanks Carlos, I will give it a shot. I haven't flashed a file this way in at least 8 years. I do have cables but not quite sure which is null modem and I would have to start up my extremely old laptop which has the 9 pin port to accomodate the cable.

Most RS232 cables provided inside FTA boxes are Null. Straight cable is rare and use in limited models. So if your came inside of any model most be Null. Once you set your Com computer its a pretty easy process to do. Good Luck!

I used to do this very often but I haven't in many years. I will power up my old dinosaur laptop later and attempt a recovery.

It took several attempts to realise I wasn't using the right cable, finally got it to take. My x2 Premium III is back in service, pic of Rtvge on Telstar 12:

Unbelievable....I did a fw upgrade via the internet and it's bricked again. The tv screen says Strong, not Premium III. I am going to transfer the latest file via null modem cable and hope to bring this stb back to life again.:wtf:

Something is happening lately with X2 though!

I noticed that Carlos when I saw Strong on my tv screen, obviously a file for another receiver. I'm doing the file upgrade as I post this, hopefully it will take.

Successfully flashed May 26 file, x2 Premium III is back from the dead for a second time-leaving it alone.

Carlos, I'm not quite sure I understand. Is there a issue with updating the Premium III online. A good friend has one. Should I tell him not to update it online? I think he mentioned he did at one point. I'll have to be the one to fix it if it happens. Just curious.

Since Costactc tried and got an error I'll say NO. Haven't heard from X2 in a while and don't see any movement. So in the meantime just use the in-house link for the latest May 2015 file via USB:

Since the IV is the same as III but with some more memory I will say to use the III loader but using the latest file for the IV. Give it a try and let us know. Good Luck

Carlospr43 I bricked my Premium III, I downloaded your Loader and followed the instructions, I get an error message Opening Serial Port failed, I tried all my serial ports on the computer, getting error message, Opening Serial Port failed. I also tried all the COM ports also getting the same error message. I tried 2 different computers, still same thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Loader is not the problem. Are you using a RS232 Null Cable? Make sure its NULL and not Straight. Test the Cable and the Com port in your computer to make sure which one is?? You can use any other old SD box to do it. Once you run the loader make sure you choose the proper Com Port (1,2..). Bit Rate: 115200 Parity: Even, Checkmark the Include Bootloader and find the Backup Software before hitting Next. If the Com port is free and working it should work fine.

Hi JD, Are you sure your using a RS-232 null cable and not a straight through cable? It could be the reason for the port error.

I see Carlos answered just before me..thanks Carlos.

Thanks Carlos Is this the right cable, not sure what you mean NULL and not Straight. 12569

This is just a USB to RS232 cable. You need to know well how to configure this to use it. What I mean is a real RS232 to Rs232 NULL cable. This is what I usually used and works fine

Carlos are you saying that the cables I have will work?

The cables you have may work, but they will need to be configured correctly.
You have an USB to serial device or USB com port. Your computer will need to install the driver for this device and assign a com port to it. Some USb serial devices have a small disc that is included in the original packaging. This small disc contains the needed drivers to install the serial device.

You may check and see if your usb to serial device is installed correctly by connecting it to your computer, then go to the device manager and see if the device is listed under com ports.

Thanks EB, I checked under the Device Manager, the driver for my Keyspan is listed under Serial Port COM5. When I change Port to COM5 The Message is -- Synchronizing STBs... Please reset target! And it just sits there with nothing happening. When I Cancel it says Downloading, but not really Downloading, I waited over an hour with still nothing happening.

I don't even get the bar at the bottom showing the % of downloading.

Originally you reported a "Opening Serial Port failed". That seems to be fixed using the Com5. The new message "Synchronizing STBs... Please reset target!" Usually happens when you are not doing in the right process. The box should be unplug from power line with the rear rocket switch in ON position. Once you open the loader and open the recovery file there should be 2 ways to do it. When you hit NEXT , immediatly plug the box in the power line. If this way doesnt work then do the opposite: Plug the box in the power line and immediatly hit the NEXT boton.

Carlos I tried everything you said in Post #29 I think this receiver has had it, it just says on all the time. What bricked it was Sept file for Premium III, looks like it may be time to buy a new one. Thanks

Has the loader been configured for Com Port 5?

You may also change the com port from 5 to 1 in the device manager of the computer. Normally, it will not hurt anything to do that, but it would depend on what has been assigned com port 1.

EB Thanks, I changed to com port 1 in Device Manager and still getting the same. Thanks I think this receiver has had it!

Have you contacted X2 to see is there is any warranty open?? How old is this receiver?? Have you try to recover using an old file from our files section different from the one marked as Recovery file in the loader rar file?? Maybe it will accept an older file.

It may be a good idea to test the rs232 serial connection on another receiver that works to verify that your computer is communicating with the receiver.

You will get these messages when the loader is connected to the computer, but not connected to the receiver. You need to have a Good, Null rs232 cable Connected to the back of the receiver and to the USB serial adapter.

jdelanos73, I Bricked mine a couple of months ago. The cable I used was a 9 to 9 RS232. Pin out 2------3, 3-------2, 5--------5. And the shields were connected at each end. I think your better off to use a computer that has a 9 pin serial port rather than trying to use a usb adapter,If that's what your doing . I have found that sometimes those adapter don't work well with some things. Good luck.

+1

Always better to use a dedicated serial port..... usb adapters do work BUT only if you are lucky to find the correct hardware compatibility.

A serial port on a computer today is very rare. Most computers made within the last ten years do not have them.
