I really like usb tuners because they may be used on different fta receivers or computers. Sundtek has ATSC usb tuners for North America, and also a DVB-S/S2 usb tuner with Blindscan. Receivers like the VU+ Zero offer many media and network features, but the satellite side of the VU+ Zero is difficult for us in North America because we need blindscan.

I purchased a Sundtek SkyTV Ultimate 5 usb tuner earlier this year because I knew it was blindscan capable. Enigma2 fta receivers appeal to me because most of the firmware or image is open source and is easy to customize or modify. The only bad thing I see about enigma2 receivers in North America is most of them do not offer blindscan.

External usb tuners will not run in every enigma2 receiver. The SH4 receivers do not normally support usb tuners. If you are wanting to purchase an enigma2 receiver, make sure it will support usb tuners before buying it.

The blindscan feature of the Sundtek SkyTV Ultimate 5 is in developmental stage at present. It can be expected to take a while for the blindscan to be refined, and for plugins to support it. I am currently testing the blindscan feature on the Vu+ Zero receiver, and will try to test other receivers in the future.

I would like to personally Thank Sundtek for providing us with a blindscan capable usb external tuner. It should also be noted that this tuner seems to work with 16APSK signals. I do not know of any other usb tuner developer or manufacturer that supports ATSC and DVB blindscan in enigma2 operating systems. I really appreciate Sundtek providing support for the features that we need in North America. EB

Do you figure these will work well with the Raptor? What is the price range of this?

The Raptor does not support USB tuners.
None of the SH4 receivers support USB tuners unless the enigma2 image is modified.

I managed to butcher an enigma2 internal tuner blindscan plugin which allows me to capture the output of the Sundtek blindcan. The output from the Sundtek device is refined so the enigma 2 receiver can automatically scan it. This system is starting to function like an internal tuner. Now I have blindscan capability with the Vu+ Zero receiver!

More features and refinements should be available soon. EB

The Sundtek DVB-S2 2015 model has a lot of potential or things that we can use on supporting Enigma2 receivers. The blindscan has already been mentioned, but there are commands for tuning transponder frequencies and for scanning services.

The command, "/opt/bin/mediaclient --tsscan /dev/dvb/adapter1/dvr0" will return services for the transponder that the USb tuner is tuned to. I find the return time for this type of scan to be extremely fast, and it has advantages over the Enigma2 Service Scan in the amount of time it takes to resolve or find services for a particular transponder.

Here is what the device returned for a scan of the ABC mux at 99W:

Enigma2 may list a found transponder like this:

<enigma.eDVBFrontendParametersSatellite; proxy of <Swig Object of type 'eDVBFrontendParametersSatellite *' at 0x73c9bab8> >]
Things would need to be done in order to make the above string readable by a human.

Sundtek outputs blindscanned transponders in the console like this:

MODE: DVB-S2 FREQUENCY(MHz): 11760 SYMBOL_RATE: 29999 MODULATION: PSK8 VOLTAGE: 18V TONE: OFF
MODE: DVB-S FREQUENCY(MHz): 11941 SYMBOL_RATE: 19999 MODULATION: QPSK VOLTAGE: 13V TONE: ON
MODE: DVB-S FREQUENCY(MHz): 12144 SYMBOL_RATE: 19999 MODULATION: QPSK VOLTAGE: 13V TONE: ON
MODE: DVB-S FREQUENCY(MHz): 12180 SYMBOL_RATE: 24999 MODULATION: QPSK VOLTAGE: 13V TONE: ON
MODE: DVB-S2 FREQUENCY(MHz): 11760 SYMBOL_RATE: 29999 MODULATION: PSK8 VOLTAGE: 18V TONE: ON
MODE: DVB-S2 FREQUENCY(MHz): 11880 SYMBOL_RATE: 29998 MODULATION: PSK8 VOLTAGE: 18V TONE: ON
MODE: DVB-S2 FREQUENCY(MHz): 12094 SYMBOL_RATE: 4599 MODULATION: PSK8 VOLTAGE: 18V TONE: ON
MODE: DVB-S2 FREQUENCY(MHz): 12174 SYMBOL_RATE: 4599 MODULATION: PSK8 VOLTAGE: 18V TONE: ON

Much easier to read and much easier to put the Sundtek output into a widget and place the widget on the tv screen of the receive.

Enigma2 wants the transponders to look like this:
