I just got this receiver tonight. It is larger than your average receiver. It boots to the proper TV mode so no troubles there. The blind scan is stepped where the transponders are scanned first and then the channels after. The blind scan is pretty fast and accurate. 2 minutes 6 seconds on 99w Cband. The scan works properly with my bandstacked LNB. There are a lot of multimedia functions on the box that I will be testing later this week when I have more time.

Here are the specs:

I like it let us know how good is the Blind Scan.

Its pretty good. Comparable to the Triplex receiver but a little faster. The bandstacked blind scan works properly. I might be having a switching problem to my fixed Ku dish so I haven't been able to scan that one yet. I should be able to try more tonight. But so far it is a great receiver for the money. Easily in the top 5 of the receivers I own.

The tuner sensitivity is pretty good. I just did some testing and it looks like the x2 edges it out so far.

I tried an x2 wifi adapter and it didn't recognize it. I will test the network functions later with either the ethernet port or if I can find a usb wifi stick that works with it.

How is the AB Cryptobox 650HD working out rrob311

It is excellent so far. I haven't tried to update it or hook it up to the internet yet but I should be able to test it more in the next couple of days. Certainly worth what I paid. About 100$ shipped.

There is a few left on ebay. There is also a 652hd model which is basically the same except it has a dvb-t tuner for Europe.

RRob is there any chance you could put some pictures of this boxes interface, Menu, tuning etc etc..

It looks like quite a nice looking receiver.

Edit: I was just looking for one on ebay and ended up buying an AB Prismcube Ruby instead

I like a challenge and its only £40 i've spent ($82 CAD / $60 US ):D

Here are some more pictures. I see you have the Prismcube Ruby. Isn't that box the next step up from this one?

This receiver will allow you to change the name of a channel and then it will stay the same when you run another scan. Although I believe it makes a duplicate channel. There are a couple of settings that I need to test to see how they work.

Its pure XBMC with 2 satellite tuners.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

I know you can get them brand new for about $170 CAD from a store in Germany although you may have to enquire about shipping across the pond as they mostly deal within Europe. They were over $600 CAD when they were first released, although i think they were a bit of a flop as most people were expecting an operating system similar to Enigma 2. There were also a lot of early teathing problems with them.

They support MGCamd and OSCam emus so that makes them even more usable on the satellite side, although for me the main reason for purchase is for the move across the pond as to start with XBMC will be my main souce of viewing until i get either cable or satellite TV.

I know it was available in several guises from AB, Vu+, KASYS, and Openbox, same box made by Marusys with different branding depending on where in the world its sold. It should be an interesting bit of kit to play with.

I shall probably put the Blackhole Prismcube image on it and then take it from there.

I finally got mind all it has is eastern sats do you have to put in western sats manually are there a sat list some where.

rrob311
01-02-2016, 06:15 PM
I haven't made one yet. I just added like 10 or so. My list is a work in Progress. I haven't touched the firmware either as it works pretty well as is.

rodder
01-02-2016, 07:13 PM
do you know if you can use clarke tech editor to make a sat list and did you ever get wifi to working.

rrob311
01-02-2016, 08:59 PM
I haven't tried the editor but the wifi did work when I plugged in a good wifi stick.

Hi rrob311 were you able to get 16 APSK i tried it yesterday on the golf feeds and could not get them

rrob311
01-25-2016, 01:45 PM
The only channels I watched with it that are allegedly 16apsk is on the open mux on 97w. It worked on those. Many people say they are 16apsk.

One thing I noticed with this is it booted to PAL mode. My TV does both modes so I never bothered to change it. I switched it to 1080p mode and the screen flickers so I switched it to 1080i and all is well.

rodder
02-02-2016, 04:32 PM
Mine is not booting now but if you are in the setting menu the screen goes black every few min's. i was going to sent it back but cost more to send it back then it is worth.

I would file a paypal dispute if it was through ebay. Can you try a different video output in the rear to try and narrow it down?

rodder
02-02-2016, 04:55 PM
yes i have tried other outputs and 3 different firmware. yes tried paypal but he has in his listing buyer is responsible for return shipping he will take it back but shipping is $56

Does the screen go black when there is no coax hooked up to the receiver?

rodder
02-02-2016, 07:09 PM
i haven't tried that will try it next.

rodder
02-03-2016, 06:25 AM
With no coax hooked up it has not blacked out. I hooked up just the c-band coax and it is still running good. I had this hooked up running my c-band and ku thru a diseqc switch i don't believe this receiver will handle it
it worked fine on the D-15.

How long is your cable run? Maybe you can try a new switch/cable and recheck all connections. I have signal problems but they're mostly due to having a long run and multiple switches that are not protected from the elements.

Silverado5150
02-03-2016, 11:59 AM
Some of the switches I have pass power to LNBFs not currently selected which seems strange but true. I didn't believe it until I tested a Digiwave 8x1 switch that had cascades through 2 other switches outside on the dish farm. That sort of scenario puts unnecessary parasitic current draw on the power output of the receiver. When I was running a microHD STB, it had sometimes long delays when switching. It couldn't handle what I was trying to do and starting indicating a short circuit message onscreen which was really overload due to the setup configuration. Some boxes may react in different ways.

I agree with rrob311 about the cable and and the elements, add some moisture and corrosion and it might be too much?

rodder
02-03-2016, 12:31 PM
cable run 60ft yes i tried another switch it strange it only blacked out while in settings while watching a picture it stays steady
