Now testing the TBS 5925 tuner using a Vu+ Duo2 receiver. Support for other models may follow. It also looks like changes are being made in enigma2 for support of 16apsk and 32apsk formats. I find the 5925 to be a very fine addition to the Duo2 receiver, and can say that it outperforms the stock Duo2 tuners in many areas.

No other images that I know of. This particular image is "private" or "experimental" and will not be posted by me. I expect a public posting of an image with these drivers soon.

Connected the TBS 5925 to the computer and did a blindscan of 103W Ku. EBS Pro found a 12085V SR5000 32APSK transponder. I entered most of his information in the Duo2 and got a lock with the 5925 connected. Also found another tp that the 5925 locked, and the Duo2 internal tuner did not. I really do not know if I trust what EBS Pro says but here are screenshots of the claimed to be 12085V 32 APSK tp and another tp that the internal Duo2 tuners would not lock.

How is the TBS tuner sensitivity vs. Vu+? On a weak transponder, which has better lock threshold? I am wondering if the TBS tuner is more sensitive, it would probably help with smaller ku dishes.

el bandido
02-13-2016, 01:09 PM
The TBS 5925 tuner is better by a wide margin. It locks the small 11804H transponder at 87W easily while the internal usb tuner has problems with this transponder sometimes. SNR in db is up on many transponders. Have not concluded yet if this is a real increase or artificial one.

Here are the TBS 5925 specs, which are now being realized in the Duo2:

For the last year the PBS stations have been giving me problems on 87 and 125 when some of the transponders switched to 8psk. I was thinking of ordering four Winegard DS-3100 to replace my DTV Ku dishes which have done a great job for the last few years. If that doesn't work, I'll probably try the TBS once other images are available.

I used to be able to lock in 11804 without any problems last year using the DTV dish, but lately it's a hit and miss situation. Hopefully the Winegard will suffice.

Good Plan!

Do not know how much the 5925 would help that issue. A bigger reflector or dish should be the best solution.

el bandido

The TBS 5925 has more signal sensitivity. I have four coax feeds connected to the same C band dish. The tests below were made using two of these feeds, so the antenna system is nearly identical for both tuners.

I decided to test a strong 4120H transponder at 99W.

The TBS 5925 has about 17db SNR
12874

The Duo2 has about 15 db SNR
12875

Moved the dish until ALL signal was lost on the Duo2 internal tuner
12876

Then switched to the TBS 5925 tuner without moving the dish
12877

The TBS 5925 was able to retain a somewhat usable signal while the internal tuner lost signal completely. I think this proves or suggests that the TBS 5925 is a lot more sensitive. We pay good money for these receivers and get crap stock tuners with them!
BER works with the TBS 5925 and Does Not work with the internal tuners.

Here is a TBS 5925 16APSK Golf Feed. Very nice and clean picture

That is great work!
I have been trying to build a linux azboxme files for the tbs5922se without much progress. UDL kernel has the files ready to compile but I'm such a novice at linux it is a struggle. If possible could you talk to the image developers and see if they can incorporate all of the tbs file from UDL into the tree for future inclusion into E2 images for all boxes? Thanks.
I worked my genpix and prof 7500 into the azbox and the prof is great once the stv0900 patch is applied. The genpix needs new "codes" to be able to use all of its functions.
I am a member at Rick's as well will link two threads there that may help others with info and they may be able to help me as well.

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE AT RICK'S WHO WORK SO HARD AS WELL ON THESE BOXES AND FILES AND FOR THEIR INFORMATION IN THESE POSTS!!!

This will probably take a while to be available in many different images. OpenATV also said "no package found" the last time I checked. Now the module packages are there, but the Kernel has not been patched. Keep checking and maybe it will be there one day. A TBS plugin will probably be available in downloadable plugins once all of the needed changes are made. You can get on the HDMU or OpenATV forum and request this item to be added. Doing that may help!

OpenATV Adds TBS5925 support. I have tested the current image and find the TBS working using a Vu+Duo2.

The following boxes are not currently supporting TBS5925 in OpenATV. In these models , the kernel is too old or Incompatible .:

all Azbox Model
Odin M9
all Spark Sh4 Model
Xtrend ET5000, ET6000 and ET9x00 Model
WetekPlay
Unibox HDx
Sesam 5000
Miraclebox Twin
D-Cube

From openATV 5.4 , there will be multi-stream and Blind Scan Support if the hardware the Support or to an appropriate tuner as the TBS 5925 uses .

Beta testers are welcome please indicate which box you have you need for the TEST a TBS 5925 or identical tuners have otherwise you can not have this function test !

Open ATV may have added TBS support to the AzBox ME and Mini ME. I think these receivers have a kernel of 3.9. I do not own either one of these receivers so I cannot test or verify this support.

10750 blindscan seems to have been added to all AzBox models that OpenATV supports. 10750 L.O. lnb should use the circular antenna setting.

IMO, You will have to look for it. I paid $259.00 for mine, but that has been about 5 years ago I think.

TBS5925 Is buggy when used with a E2 receiver, but it works pretty good if you do not constantly try to get it to do different things. Even with the bugs, I think it is a nice addition to the e2 receiver.

The BlackHole image is an antique and really belongs in a museum. There is little support for usb tuners or devices in BlackHole, plus the image has other problems when used in North America.

Installing TBS devices in any image will depend on the kernel, and if the kernel has been patched or updated. Installing TBS from the terminal is possible, but it will not work unless the kernel has been modified for it.

The pixelation issue might be solved by getting the drivers from BlackHole and installing them in another image. Really would help to see some screen captures or even a short video of the problem.

Some other manufacturers will have a log list like that in a month or less for one product!
Vu+ is not supporting their products, and seem to be content in only serving Germany and Europe with subscription and media type receivers. Pretty much anything that needs to be fixed in your Vu+ receiver for North American use will have to be done by you! It is unfortunate that it is like this as the Duo 4K is very pricey. But it is what it is...
Will be glad to help where possible, but it will probably be less of a headache to sell the Duo 4K and get something more suitable for use here. If you keep it, be prepared to do some work.

I like to have this powerful processor ...

The pixelation issue surely happens in Europe and anywhere to be honest ... this is a driver issue that all 3rd party images are having this problem accept BlackHole ... i don't understand how this is even possible ...

I hope OpenATV see my posts and takes it seriously ...

I don't know how to fix or transfer drivers between images ... hopefully this can be done soon ...

I can even see the TBS5925 on the BlackHole image...

The device is "seen". The box just does not know what it is or what to do with it using that image.

Europe and Germany are mainly using the Duo 4K as a subscription box, so the pixelation may not exist on their channels. Also, Why should OpenATV care about this if others do not have the problem? OpenATV is a German forum mostly. Still, I am sure ATV would like to fix it but How? You have provided them with nothing to work with.

For the pixelation issue, it would be very helpful to see it, or at least know what it takes for it to exist. Some drivers may be moved between images. It just depends. On the other hand, If the pixelation is drivers, then the other images should also get updated drivers at some point.

TBS5930 Is not currently supported in enigma2 images from what I see.

TBS had a great opportunity to get their products installed in enigma2 images, but they refused to work with the developers. This explains why TBS5925 only half-assed worked in enigma2 images. Personally, I no longer have any desire for TBS products after seeing how they were not interested in supporting their products.

I have installed OpenATV 6.4 (18 February 2022) on my Octagon SF8008 4K UHD receiver. I've read through this thread pretty carefully and I think the TBS5925 tuner has all its components present in the OS, however I do not see the USB tuner in the "Select Tuner" menu. I've tried plugging the tuner into the rear port (USB 2.x?) and the side port (USB 3.x?) of the SF8008 but no luck so far. What might I be missing?

Try loading this image: [Only registered and activated users can see links]

The 5925 drivers are pre-installed in that image. Plugging the tbs device into the receiver before image installation will be ok It will also blindscan a bit different than your ATV image.

Thanks, el bandido. I get the same result with the North American Project 4.2 Test Image. Is there step I'm missing to trigger the TBS5925 tuner to show up in the tuner list?

EDIT: Should I ask this question instead in Octagon SF8008 TNAP 4.2 Test Image - Discussion? Would that be okay?

There is nothing you are missing. Looks like there is something missing in the driver build. Let me se if I can do anything about it.

The kernel patch file is missing and will need some modifications to allow tbs 5925 to run in the sf8008.

I discovered this as well. I'm enough of a novice that the needed modifications look pretty difficult. Does the kernel itself need to be patched or can the kernel simply load settings from a configuration file? (How difficult is this?)

Thanks, el bandido!

A tbs 5925 patch file modifies the linux distribution that is provided by the manufacturer. So it is really no big deal to do as long as it works. I will see what can be done with it.
