Just curious, has anyone noticed on their OS Mio that the resolution alternates back and forth between 704 x 480i30 and 704 x 480p30 on the SES 1 channels?

Mine does this. I never asked about it before because I figured it was some kind of quirky thing about the SES 1 channels but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere so I thought I would ask.

It happens to me on Decades, H & I, and Start TV.

Thanks.

The receiver resolution is set in: Menu--->Setup--->System--->Audio/Video--->A/V settings. This resolution value does not change unless it is set to "Auto".

The receiver displays the resolution that is being transmitted in the channel. This value will change according to what resolution is being received. This is normal operations. There would be no need to display the resolution in infobar if the receiver was displaying the setting you entered in A/V settings because that value would never change (unless it was set to "Auto").

Thank you for your reply.

I was speaking of the resolution that was being transmitted in the channel.

I made a small video of H & I to show what I mean. I'm sorry for the bad video quality, my hands shake anymore.

Cannot see the video. You will need to make it viewable. Thanks.

Sorry about that. It should be viewable now.

Try changing the Infobar frontend data source from "Settings" to "Tuner" as shown below.

I changed the setting to Tuner but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Now, it doesn't always do this, it's kind of an intermittent thing. What I've noticed lately is when I change channels the infobar will show either 704 x 480i30 or 704 x 480p30 and stay there until a commercial comes on and then it will show the opposite (from 480i30 to 480p30 or vice versa) and when the show comes back on it will return to the original format. However, sometimes it will just sit there and go back and forth between the two.

Really hard to say what it is. Is the picture actually changing resolutions, or does the receiver just think it is?
You may also try changing skins, and see if the results are the same.

It isn't changing resolutions that I can tell. I'll try another skin and see if it does the same thing.

Let me ask you, is it normal for H & I West as well as Start West to freeze for a second before they come on. On mine the picture will come up and freeze for a second and then play.

The difference between 480i and 480p would be hard to notice. I see this now on other channels on 101w including Start TV. These stations are showing old programs. Either the receiver is being fooled or the resolution of the commercial may be different than the resolution of the program.

I also see a slight hesitation or freeze when changing between these channels. I do not think there is anything we can do about it, and it is hardly noticeable to me unless I am looking for it. These channels have given a lot of different fta receivers problems. The MIO is playing them, and that is probably the best we are going to get.

Yes, the SES channels can be problematic. The alternating resolution and hesitation don't bother me. I do have an intermittent video stutter problem though that can be annoying, but that's a problem that just started a few months ago and effects my older receiver as well. I've just about pulled my hair out trying to figure it out and the only thing I can figure out is that it must be some kind of local interference.

Let me ask you, is it normal for H & I West as well as Start West to freeze for a second before they come on. On mine the picture will come up and freeze for a second and then play.I've noticed this too. I think what's happening is the video pops up and then is waiting for the audio to catch up. The audio is playing while the video is frozen, then the video starts and the video and audio are in sinc. Of course this is just a guess? So, I think the answer to your question is YES, it is normal.....
