My openbox S10 will not turn on. I believe the firmware is corrupt. Does anyone know how to load new firmware without it turning on? I have heard you can do it through the serial port but have never tried.

Click on the link and download the 9500HDX Erom Utility ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) located at the bottom of the page.
Then you will need a good S10 file and a null rs232 cable.

Thanx guys. I tried to load my channel file then it wouldn't turn back on. I just need to figure out which of my serial cables is a Null cable and then try this.

The null cable will be the one that works so you could try the process of elimination. Or you could use an ohm meter and check the cable pins. Google DB9 or RS232 pinout for a diagram.

Most of the old FTA boxes usually were shipped with the Null cables in it if purchased brand new. The only one I recall that used a straight cable and not null was the Coolsats. So if you ever purchased before or someone close to you did it should have a null cable with it.

openbox only uses 3 wires,pins
2-3
3-2
5-5
I kill my receiver daily and always recover via rs232 and loader v2.0.0c

Nah.
He is just trying to verify that the chip can be flashed 100,000 times instead of 99,999.:smashed:

Keep up the good work DR Zin. We appreciate your efforts! EB

So the box will probably be OK? It's like brand new. I am not impressed with the quality of this as opposed to the S9.

Well I was able to scrounge up a serial cable in a Viewsat box and load a file so now I have LEDs and I guess it works. Thank you everyone for holding my hand with this as I have never recovered a box using old school serial method. Thanks again!

The receiver is working OK but I scanned in everything on 91w Cband and when I switch to different channels, mainly dvb-s2 the box resets itself. Has anyone ran into this? What firmware is the most stable for this? I am using the one that was shown in the thread earlier.

Make a copy of your sats/tps/channles (TP_prog) . Turn off the box in the rear switch. Unplug the coax cable. Turn on the box. If you really want a freeze/lockup free firmware use 07/14/2011. Give it a try. Eventhough it is named 07/19/2011 when you unrar the file is 07/14/2011. Once you load the firm, load your TP dump file. Turn off the box in the rear switch. Connect back the coax cable and turn on the box. See how it works, Good luck

OK I switched from my 16gb bmw usb drive and back to my cruzer 4gb and it is working fine so I guess it didn't like the 16gb drive.

Reload the file again through the rs232 port.
