    i already had a 500gb 2.5" hard drive bought this case for it at Amazon hooked it up and it works great.

    It's generally recommended that when using any external HDD on a E2 based receiver to go for a externally powered drive or powered USB hub.

    This is or was primarily to prevent the drive misbehaving such as dropping its mounts when you go to record, due to drawing too much or not enough power from the USB port of the receiver.

    Been using a 128Gb flash drive on mine. So far that has worked much better than I expected.
