For the last 3 years or so, I was doing a lot of reading about c/ku dish & lnb.
From what I read and from my modest experience with a 6' prime focus and 1.2m (motorized systems), I came
to the conclusion that nobody had achieved good quality signal for both c & ku on the same dish. The best I found in this forum and others is that
you have to "sacrifice" quality on one or the other on the same system. Most of the testers have a dedicated dish for Ku & another one for C (any size)
to compensate for the "sacrifice".
This brings me to the conclusion that there are no decent quality equipment (dish & lnb) to perform on both bands using one dish.
Am I wrong or.....
 
I agree with that assessment to an extent. That’s why I use my 6 ft prime focus primarily for c band and my 1m offset for ku. I don’t know how a large offset would do for c band, but I have not been able to get my 6 ft prime focus to receive ku anywhere near as good as my 1 meter. I’d like to get an 8ft offset to see how it would do on c band.
 
People that have a 8ft or larger prime focus dish, myself too, have reported C band is fine , but Ku is "ok" at best. The Ku combo does not seem to comprise the C, but Ku part sees only part of the dish. I even tried a dedicated 6ft prime focus dish for Ku only with the proper Ku scalar and feed, worked ok. I later installed a 1.2m Ku (4ft.) offset Channel Master that well outperformed the prime focus. My conclusion is that the average prime focus dish surface is not accurate enough for the shorter wave length Ku frequencies, but not a problem for C band. If you have landlord or wife problems a C/Ku combo is a ok compromise. Your 1.2m Ku is your best bet for that service. You need to loose the 6' prime for something bigger. :)
 
I already got rid of the 6' at the end of last year. I know that bigger is better, but it looks like for c or ku only & not for both.
The reason For starting this thread is that I was looking in buying a 10' mesh (~2.5 hrs away) but remembering what i was going through with 6', I quit.
I am confident that 10' will perform better than 6' but if no size dish can perform good on both bands, it does not make sense. will wait for new products.
 
I run a dmx741 c/ku on my 10' winegard mesh. The Ku is definitely a compromise. I am experimenting with a 6' solid prime focus for Ku right now but realistically want a 4 foot offset for Ku. Still looking for one.
 
I've dabbled with c/ku lnbf and even a polorotor with seperate lnbs but I feel my seperation of the bands is the best way to go. I have had good results on c band also with a 6' and my 8' dish.
