A Canadian-born scientist whose discoveries have helped shed light on the intricate workings of the human immune system won the Nobel Prize in Medicine on Monday, three days after he died of cancer.
Ralph Steinman, a native of Montreal who studied biology and chemistry at McGill University, shares the coveted prize with American Bruce Beutler and Jules Hoffman of Luxembourg.
Steinman, who was 68, died Friday of pancreatic cancer, according to the Rockefeller University website.
