Capturing Pics

I was wondering what the best way to capture clear pictures from satellite channels. I've been using a camera for years without the greatest of results. I've seen others post crystal clear pics and would like to be able to do so as well. I have never been much into techy stuff but I'm sure there must be a way with a lnux receiver to be able to capture pics. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The only way you're going to get clear and good looking image is using the receivers capability to communicate with your pc, i.e., WebIf, WebInterface, etc. Then just cut and paste the image from your pc. If the receiver doesn't have this capability, you're at the mercy of your camera and tripod. I am too lazy to setup a tripod, that's why my images look blurred some of the times.

I just record 15 to 20 seconds to the thumb drive. Then Plug the thumb drive into the pc and start playing in vlc or media player classic. Both have the option to take a snapshot of the video that will be in hd quality. This is also how I get the specs on a channel such as 422 h264.

You can capture images on your AZBoxes by press the CHECK button on your remote. Can be viewed in the PHOTO menu, and the image is stored in DATA/(storage directory, hbd1 or usb1, etc.)/picture for transfer to your PC. It won't capture any info (for example, if you press the INFO button to display channel name/info it won't be captured in the image) or any settings from the SETTINGS menu.

Thanks KB, crystal clear pictures with both my 2 azbox receivers.

I've been trying to capture pics and play video using vlc from my Technomate 5302 but I can't play them as I get an error message. Does anybody know how to play a .trp file?

I was still having issues with .trp files using VideoRedo so I googled for some info and came up with Media Player Lite and it works spot on with my technomate, files even download on my usb directly in that format.
