Dang! My wife's Amex card got hit Friday by someone in Vegas. At first I thought she was careless with her card but Saturday mine was hit in LAX. Seeing there are various digits apart between the two cards, I can only surmise that some one is using a card number generator and got lucky.

I've always avoided using unsecured sites for ordering sat and pc components and have been very careful, especially with cell phones etc., but now you never know. I have been pretty paranoid about maintaining our credit privacy, but obviously that had no effect. It might have helped, but I guess anyone at this point is capable of being hit no matter how careful.

I will still continue shredding my CC mail and other junk just for the psychological factor, but am now considering using Lif-Lok. Anyone have any experience with their service?

Luckily, we won't be held responsible for the accrued charges at this point.

I would love to trace and find these sobs and and introduce them to my GS Zeus for some heavy duty lovin' just for 3 minutes.
 
Much the same happened to me last year. Some dude working in a local gas station had a fake swipe machine.

Next statement I had an $800.00 snowboard ordered from and online store in California and another $600.00 for various custom auto parts.

Got a reverse easy enough and the dude does not work at the gas station anymore, So I assume or hope he was getting free room and board somewhere.

The Card company never does tell you how there investigation goes..
 
I was a victim 2 years ago also. Luckily my credit card company was on my side and I did not lose any money. Now I usually buy prepaid cards whenever I order online, or only use a card I have capped at $500.00 I'm glad everything worked out for you.
 
My amex card just got hit and somebody from my state ordered a bunch of stuff from bed bath and beyond. I was able to get the drop address. I think it may have been a guy I worked with who was a known scammer but luckily I didn't have to pay for the breast pump and other newborn items. LOL
