Google Inc. (GOOG) is planning to challenge the supremacy of Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) by diving deeper into the fast-growing world of Internet retailing, the Wall Street Journal reported , citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said that Google is in talks with major retailers and shippers, includes Macy's Inc. (M), Gap Inc.(GPS) and OfficeMax Inc.(OMX) about creating a service that would let consumers shop for goods online and receive their orders within a day for a low fee.

Google is pushing back with the quick-shipping service, and many retailers are interested in signing up for it, the report stated.
