I Now Hate Windows!

Have tried and tried to re-install windows 8.1 on my computer after a fatal error. Have used G Parted to reformat the hard drive several times with various configurations. I would like to get windows back but, at what price? I now have mint 18.1 installed and still have to learn a lot of the basics.

Any ideas? Open to any help.

Need more info on exactly what happened when you received the fatal error. What happens when you try to reinstall 8.1?
How have you partitioned your drive?

Have had to reinstall linux mint 3 times now. Not too well versed in linux. Have reformated the hd several times trying to reinstall windows, ntfs. Have tried the original discs, 2014, several different iso's with no luck. On the originals, I get a missing file, system32 or something, cannot remember right now. Can turn on the other computer to converse and try again?

Thanks!

Are you trying to dual-boot linux and windows on the same hard drive? If that's your goal, read here for a simple explanation, https://www.howtogeek.com/187789/du...-multiple-operating-systems-on-your-computer/ or google "how to install linux and windows on same drive".

If you find it too cumbersome to install both OS on a single hard drive, just format the hard drive again (it will obviously delete everything) and install windows only.

Then get a portable version of Mint and install it to a usb drive, be it an external usb hard drive or a large thumb drive. Once installed you will be able to boot to either OS by pressing a select F key # which will then display a screen of which drive to boot from. This is the easiest way to install two OS without getting too involved with the technicalities of both OS. This, assuming your motherboard allows you to do this type of boot. If your motherboard allows this, you can also set windows or mint to be the main bootup OS. Thus, you won't have to keep pressing the F key on each bootup. If it does not, you will have to use your one hard drive to create two partitions and install windows on one partition and mint on the other.

I don't remember which OS has to be installed first on a dual partition drive, so read the article and should you have any other questions, just post.

No, windows just wont install. Tried to download win 8.1 but dl speed was just too slow last night. May try another dl today if speed is better. Getting better at setting up firefox and kodi with add ons each time I format the drive.
