Rajai Davis legged out an infield single in Toronto’s opening at-bat to kick-start a four-run first inning en route to a 13-3 rout of the Minnesota Twins in AL action on Friday.

The Blue Jays also showed they still have some pop at the plate, blasting four home runs to thrill a raucous sellout crowd at Rogers Centre in the regular-season opener for both teams.

Ricky Romero (1-0) was solid in his first game as the team’s No. 1 starter, giving up one earned run over six-plus innings.

Minnesota starter Carl Pavano (0-1) was lit up early and often, as the Jays tagged him for seven earned runs in four-plus innings. He gave up a two-run homer to rookie catcher J.P. Arencibia in the fourth inning and a pair of no-doubt solo blasts from Jose Bautista and Adam Lind in the fifth. Arencibia capped the four-run frame with a run-scoring triple and added a solo shot in the eighth.

Phillies 5, Astros 4: At Philadelphia, pinch-hitter John Mayberry Jr. lined an RBI single off closer Brandon Lyon that capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Houston Astros.

On a day where Brett Myers nearly stuck it to his old team by outduelling Roy Halladay, the Phillies had some comeback drama on opening day.

Pirates 6, Cubs 3: At Chicago, Neil Walker hit a grand slam, Andrew McCutchen also homered and Kevin Correia pitched into the seventh inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates opened the season under new manager Clint Hurdle with a victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Diamondbacks 7, Rockies 6 (11): At Denver, Matt Lindstrom’s wild pitch with one out in the top of the 11th inning allowed Gerardo Parra to score from third base, sending the Arizona Diamondbacks to a wild win over the Colorado Rockies.

White Sox 15, Indians 10: Carlos Quentin homered and drove in five runs, Adam Dunn homered and had four RBIs in his debut for Chicago and the go-for-broke White Sox built a huge lead and held off Cleveland’s scrappy comeback, beating the Indians in their season opener.

Orioles 4, Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Jeremy Guthrie allowed three hits in eight shutout innings while outpitching David Price, Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis each drove in two runs and the Baltimore Orioles opened the season with a 1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rangers 9, Red Sox 5: At Arlington, Texas, pinch-hitter David Murphy delivered a tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth inning and the Texas Rangers rallied for a victory over the Boston Red Sox after raising their American League championship flag.
