Are the publishers of that page idiots providing no reference ? What is wrong in this planet ?

Am interested in receiving NHK. From that page, it is supposed to be at Galaxy 16/99W - 12040 / H / Transponder 17.

Going to my receiver, transponder 17 shows frequency 11.865. Discrepancy.
Selecting 'Manual scan' 'Galaxy 16Ku' -'Add TP', (as such 12040 does not show !) typing that 12040 figure as frequency, it is rejected.

It is an endless collection of hurdles to navigate/receive FTA. It is a total absurd trying anything. Do you encounter these same sort of problems ?

The NHK page shows being at 4040 on satellite IS-21, which I never heard of it. WTF ? ----> http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/tv/howto/reception.html

Frequency 4040 does not exist in my receiver under Galaxy 16C.

If you aim the dish somewhere, doing a 'blind search' , How do you tell which satellite are the received channels from ? Where does it show the satellite ? In my receiver, to do a blind search you have to select the satellite. What kind of 'blind' is that ? Do I have to go to the internet to figure out on what satellite such and such channel comes from ?

Sorry, but am very pissed at brainless user manual writers, total careless of equipment support, and the convoluted lack of instructions everywhere.

Been 'happily' watching FTA for 2 years; moved; setup the equipment again and things behave different, unable to regain what is supposed to be controllable and somehow understandable.

The red F means the Channel is Free To Air. Click on the red F and you will see a list of other Free channels.
The red S means the channel can be streamed. Click on the red S for streaming information.

Operator Error. Or less likely, receiver software error.
Lyngsat is usually outdated, so the information on it may/may not be correct. In this case Lyngsat is correct. Transponder 17 means the 17th transponder that Lyngsat has listed for the satellite, and necessarily transponder 17 in your receiver.

There is nothing free in Free to Air except that you do not have a monthly bill. The Free channels you can watch will depend on your antenna and receiver. Most people find channels by blind scanning or searching for channel listings on sites such as Lyngsat.

A little work is needed when trying to figure out which satellite you have blind scanned. It is usually easy to figure out which satellite is being scanned by searching for all channels, both free and scrambled, then use Lyngsat or SatHint to compare the output of the blindscan to what is listed for the satellites. You should have an idea of where your satellite antenna is pointed in the sky by using a compass, so narrowing down the exact satellite is usually easy, providing the correct antenna information has been entered in the receiver.

Try subbing, or get a subscription service such as Dishnet. Then you can pay to be frustrated. FTA is not rocket science, but most people have to put time into it in order to understand how things do and do not work.

Several factors can have effect on a move, including distance traveled, and the line of sight to the satellites in the sky. (Ditto a bad install...)
