The Dion Phaneuf trade debate went in favour of the Calgary Flames for one night anyway.

The Flames scored a 2-1 shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday evening, when Olli Jokinen scored a shootout goal in the fourth round.

Calgary's Matt Stajan scored the game's first goal, when he knocked in a rebound with six minutes and 53 seconds remaining in the third period on Saturday evening.

It was only his third goal this season and sixth in 66 games for the Flames. He was playing in his first game at the Air Canada Centre since the Maple Leafs sent him to Calgary in the deal that landed Toronto Dion Phaneuf last Jan. 31.

But with the Maple Leafs on the power play and goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere on the bench for the extra attacker, Mikhail Grabovski scored the tying goal with 23 seconds left in regulation time.

The overtime had further drama with the Flames on a power play, but it was Toronto that had the best chance during the two minutes with missed breakaway from Bozak.

Since that trade that was supposed to give the Maple Leafs an edge, the Flames have a slightly better record at 33-32-7 to Toronto's 31-31-8.

Another player included in the trade, Niklas Hagman, assisted on Stajan's goal.

This was not an entertaining game for the crowd of 19,462 until the final seven minutes, proof that both teams were tired. The Flames played in Ottawa on Friday and the Maple Leafs were back home after a four-game, seven-night road trip.
Giguere returns

After riding the stingy play of rookie goalie James Reimer on their recent road trip, Jean-Sebastien Giguere was back after a nagging groin injury kept him sidelined for 11 games.
Iron man

Calgary defenceman Jay Bouwmeester played in his 469th consecutive game. It's the longest current streak in the league.
Mueller makes his debut

With the three-game suspension to forward Mike Brown for his elbow to the head of Phoenix Coyotes defenceman Ed Jovanovski last Thursday, the Maple Leafs promoted Marcel Mueller from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

The Maple Leafs signed the 22-year-old left wing after his strong showings for Germany at the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 world championship. In his first NHL game, Mueller played on a line with Colby Armstrong and Darryl Boyce and was given a few shifts in the third period with Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel.

Armstrong set Mueller up for a good chance in the first period, but Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff challenged aggressively and forced Mueller to hurry his shot.
