lilla-hunting info

hi guys. next step before I get a 2 m. dish I would like to try my 1.2 m.one with a C LNBF and I was wondering if it is possible and if so can anyone suggest a good one. thanks , have a sunny day

Hello Lilla welcome to Legitfta, now for those questions.

Well a 1.2 meter dish is still a bit small for some "C" band satellites, but not impossible to do.

I would take a look at the web site satbeams.com, this will give you a foot print map for almost any satellite up there, I have selected the 97W (Galaxy 19) satellite for you in the link below to tryout this feature.(if your in North America)

It will give you an active footprint map for that satellite, you can zoom into where your dish is located, then click on that location, this will give you an estimated dish size for that location for an error free signal.

Code:
https://www.satbeams.com/footprints?norad=33376

Now seeing that your going to try out a 1.2 meter dish (4 foot) the information may show that a larger dish would be needed, so taking the information supplied you can deduct about 9 dB from the EIRP level (Equivalent Isotropically Radiated Power** ) reported for that location on that satellite.

**EIRP
Code:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equivalent_isotropically_radiated_power

If the estimated EIRP falls below about 30 to 33 dB it may not be practical for the use of so small a dish.

However it is fun to try new things and you may get lucky.

As to the LNB for "C" band, one question, is the dish your going to use a prime focus dish (LNB located in the center) or an offset type? (LNB located below center)

As this will determine what type of LNB mount you would need for your dish, as to the LNB it's self there are many to choose from, maybe some of our members can jump in with some advice on this, and what may be best to use.
