Almost a half of all PCs in operation worldwide use pirated software, according to the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
The industry body came to the number after tasking research firm Ipsos Public Affairs with a poll of 15,000 users in 32 countries, albeit a tiny fraction of the more than one billion clients used across the planet.



It found found that the lion's share of illegal software purchases were made in developing economies
 
"The evidence is clear: the way to lower software piracy is by educating businesses and individuals about what is legal – and ramping up enforcement of intellectual property laws to send clearer deterrent signals to the marketplace."

Or make software more affordable. Some of the prices charged are somewhat absurd, but that's just an opinion of someone who will go without something, even I want it, before paying over inflated prices. Some call it business, I call it greed, and greed has been at the root of many a problem since the beginning of man's existence.
 
I agree on the greed! I know a programmer...say me...may work a long time on a program...but if you're going to sell it to a million people, then $10 is 10 million dollars! I think that is enough for my 2 years work.

Part of the price problem is the market price is set by the greediest of the greedy...The big guys want $500 for a program so mine must be worth $400, right?

If I was going to write a program I'd make it a small useful one with a very cheap price...strength in numbers.
