Reaction from readers was swift after reading about the plight of Notre Dame de Grace resident Amber Hunter, who was saddled with a huge Internet bill after hackers broke into her wireless network, as first reported in yesterday's Gazette.

Hunter said she had gone over monthly download limits for a year an a half, and had called Videotron customer support monthly to complain, but was told by only one agent that her account may have been hijacked by a hacker. She paid Videotron $1,300 since the summer and still owes about $500.

By noon yesterday, five readers had contacted The Gazette with offers to pay Hunter's bill, including Jarred Miller, the president of the Internet Service Provider YOUMANO. Miller also offered to give Hunter a full year of free Internet service on his network, as well as to pay all the overage fees she incurred with Videotron.

Hunter thanked readers for their generosity and said she will take Miller up on his offer.

"I didn't expect to get so many generous offers," Hunter said. "I really appreciate it, and I'm so thankful."
