OTTAWA -- Rogers Communications is breaking Internet traffic management rules by deliberately slowing down certain online traffic, the Canadian telecommunications regulator said Friday.
In a letter to Rogers posted on its website Friday, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission said it believes the telecom giant is in breach of rules governing how Internet Service Providers control network traffic. It asked Rogers to rebut its evidence within two weeks or develop a plan to come into compliance.
The CRTC traffic management policy stipulates the noticeable degradation of time-sensitive Internet traffic requires prior approval from the CRTC. Companies also must disclose to their customers if they're slowing traffic.
