SESÂ’ 53rd satellite, SES-6 is scheduled for launch on the 3rd of June 2013 on board an ILS Proton Breeze M rocket. The launch will take place form Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, where the spacecraft was successfully shipped earlier this week.
The SES-6 satellite will replace NSS-806 to provide significant capacity expansion. The satelliteÂ’s expanded Ku-band payload will provide enhanced coverage through its dedicated mobility beams all over Latin America & the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean Region will further support applications like HD, DTH, enterprise networks and digital inclusion projects in the Latin America region serving over 18 million households.
SES-6 will have a launch mass of 6,100 kg, a wingspan of 40m once its solar arrays are deployed in orbit, and a spacecraft power of 13 kW at the end of its 15-year design lifetime. The spacecraft will be the sixth Eurostar satellite in the SES fleet, following the successful launch of ASTRA 2F in September 2012.
