Specialty Channels, Service Providers Up the Ante with New HD Distribution

2011-06-24 Canadian television viewers have a few more HDTV choices, with new carriage announcements from various specialty services, cable companies, satellite providers and IPTV services.
The Weather Network, for example, is continuing its HD rollout with its launch on Rogers.
The service is now available on Rogers' channel 586 is part of the HD launch that began in May for Ontario and Manitoba viewers (channel 450 for MTS and channel 767 for Cogeco customers, respectively).
Meanwhile, the SPACE channel will soon launch in HD, with word that Bell Satellite TV (Channel 1746) and Bell Fibe TV (Channel 1632) will carry the signal, beginning July 6th.
SPACE HD follows the launch of MuchHD in June, and another recent announcement that Discovery Channel HD will also launch soon.
As well, OLN ramps up the intensity this summer with new series and all-new seasons of fan favourites. Starting Friday, June 24, OLN will be available in HD across Ontario on Rogers Digital Cable, starting June 24.
The OLN HD feed will be identical to the OLN standard definition signal in terms of programming, presenting HD content when available. SPACE HD will mirror the entire SPACE schedule. The Weather Network HD will air segments like its long- range forecast at five minutes past the hour, Local Forecasts every ten minutes, and weather news at 12 minutes past the hour in HD.
