suggestions for upgrading receiver

I think it is time to upgrade my CW700. Looking on various forums, and different stores I see many new receivers available. I am unsure how far I am willing to go, but am anxious to hear other peoples recommendations. I see Manhattan, Openbox, AZBox, Amiko Alien 8900, and different Optibox.

Mahattan does not seem fully developped. Openbox is very popular and not too expensive $70 is not too bad, but almost feels too cheap. AZBox seems like a lot of money to start with. Amiko Alien 8900 and Optibox receivers are not easy to find, so I do not know what they cost. Is there snywhere to see these prices?

Here are some prices for the receivers:

Optibox Raptor HD
Price: $379.99

Optibox Anaconda HD
Price: $249.99

Optibox Gekko HD
Price: $199.99

Amiko Alien
Price $185.99

We do not have a file that boots the Gekko in NTSC yet. Currently the Gekko boots in PAL.

The Amiko Alien Does Not have a blind scan feature.

Is this US dollars or CA dollars? Is shipping included also? You did not mention Manhattan or Openbox, are those not good receivers?
Thank you for your answers.

Any receiver is a good receiver if it lets you watch tv!

I think those are U.S. prices. The exchange rate for Canada is about the same anyway right now.

Many people have complained about switching problems with the Manhattan, but the people that work with Manhattan say there is nothing wrong and it is user error. Something is wrong here. The last time I looked, the Manhattan was selling for about $175.00 U.S. and I think this is high for a receiver that has no rs232 port and no internet capability.
The Manhattan works. You can watch tv with it. The Manhattan is made in China.

The Openbox S12 is about as cheap of a DVB S2 receiver that you can get. The price of a S12 is about $70.00 U.S. IMO, the S12 works better than the Manhattan. I do not have any motor/switch problems with the Openbox. I cannot run a motor/switch with the Manhattan. The menus on the S12 are laid out better than the Manhattan, and the S12 has some LAN capability. The S12 may recovered through the rsr232 port IF you have the correct adapter for it.

The Optibox Raptor is the best fta receiver that I have tested to date. The Optibox line is made in Korea where the quality is much better than in China. The Optibox line is linux based and it is much more advanced than any of the Ali windows based receivers. The Optibox blind scan is a big improvement over any of the current Openbox, Manhattan, or Pansat Ali receivers.
Optibox is a much more advanced and smoother operating receiver than any of the other receivers mentioned here.
You may want to look at the Optibox Raptor review that I have posted in this forum. The other Optibox products share a lot of the features that the Raptor has.

I like to see people ask questions. All of the receivers mentioned here are good if a person wants them. It really depends on what you would like your receiver to do and how picky you are about they way it operates. EB

I would have to recommend the openbox s12. It is a fast blind scanner and for $70 with shipping included you can't go wrong. Once the optibox receivers become more available maybe you might want to opt that way. I have an azbox receiver but cannot justify its higher price because it opens 4:2:2 feeds.
