LAS VEGAS -- UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar's title rematch with Gray Maynard is off due to injuries to both fighters.
The two were slated to meet in the main event of UFC 128 in Las Vegas on May 28.
UFC president Dana White said Edgar had a back and rib injury while Maynard hurt his knee.
The main event will now feature the light-heavyweight bout between former champion Quinton (Rampage) Jackson and Matt (The Hammer) Hamill. The co-main event will feature former heavyweight champion Frank Mir and Roy (Big Country) Nelson.
The welterweight matchup between Thiago Alves and Rick Story will move up to the main card.
Edgar and Maynard fought to a draw in a title fight at UFC 125 on Jan. 1. Maynard won a decision over Edgar when they met for the first time in April 2008.
White said the fight could be rescheduled for August or September if both fighters heal on schedule.
"They're not that serious," White said of the injuries, which happened over the weekend. "They're going to be out like six to eight weeks."
The 155-pound title picture remains on hold pending the two fighters' return, he added.
