What ISP are you using and how's the cost?

Was wondering what ISP people are using and what prices they are paying for what speed. I had been using a local wireless ISP where I was paying $54.95 a month for unlimited download with no throttling and up to 3Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. I just connected to a new ISP using DSL for $28.95 a month for up to 6Mbps download and 800Kbps upload with unlimited downloads. Ran speedtest.net and in what is normally a very busy time, I am getting 4.5Mbps down and 700 upload. Seeing a very big difference in performance. My old ISP would be getting around 2.2 or 2.3 at this time of night. Now running Acanac and the only glitch has come trying to set up the email account and for that I will contact them tomorrow as it is not critical right now. So far any correspondence with their service department has been awesome!!
 
Ive been using Acanac for 3+ years..Never had a problem yet..I thought my modem went for crap a few months back, turned out it was my phone line, but they sent me a new modem anyway just to upgrade the old one.
 
Are you using VoIP through them as well, Viper? I have not yet had the dry loop installed or VoIP as I want to try the Magic Jack with this server. If it works well, then I won't need VoIP and can save the $8 a month and 12 months X 8 = $96 and that is darn near 4 cases of beer!! And folks tell me my priorities are messed up!!:brew::brew:
 
We are in a remote area so only have 2 choices right now 1st choice was up to 2MB down and up to 500MB up and we won't say who that's with but that was a no... so went with Satellite, which is actually Cogeco Cable thru a 3rd party vendor. We had problems a few months ago with huge congestion and slow downs, we pay to get 5-6 MB Down and up to 1MB upload for $59.95 a month. Everything has been fixed now by our ISP which is WaveDirect, Speeds are usually almost 6MB down and 750MB up and not seeing any slow downs anymore.

I'd like to say a lot more on what's been going on with 3rd party providers but I just got a new job with an ISP company & I have to be careful of what I talk about publicly right now or I can loose my job.

I can say and will say honestly, the company I am working for is looking to make sure the customers get reasonable prices, good speeds and don't pay an arm and a leg for it. Also it is unfortunate for 3rd party providers when it comes to issues on the infrastructure they purchase for their customers, lets hope the CRTC re-looks at the decision it just made.

Hey EC, be careful with VoIP, there still seems to be a lot of bugs with it. Especially if you go with a VoIP service that is other than the one with your provider.

No , not using Voip, I still have a bell land-line and use my Magic jack for long distance..The dry loop has crossed my mind because I don't use the land-line much at all..Mostly other people use my line to call me and try to sell me things I don't want or need..lol

I think you will be happy with them, you can also download a small app and connect to their fiber tunnel to surf anonymous with blazing fast speed..I don't think you can download while in it, but just to surf it's super fast.
 
Thanks, Suzie. The VoIP I am looking at is through the same provider as my DSL and both the internet and VoIP come with a 30 day money back guarantee if, for any reason, I don't like the service. From what I have seen, in only the first day, I will be staying with the new provider as it is almost double my old speed and just a hair over 1/2 the price. Leaves a few bucks left over for more beer!!
 
After using bell for years I finally decided I was fed up with them and their bandwidth charges. I use Yak Communications with everything unlimited. I t costs me about $105 a month but that includes high speed internet, home phone line and wife's business phone line as she works out of home.
