That’s the name of the demonstration video recently released by William Liddiard. His “Liddiard Wheels” are omnidirectional, which means the car can move in and around very tight spaces. Imagine parallel parking with this feature.

Liddiard is a truck driver based out of London, ON and has invested $60K of his own money into this project so far. He hopes an automotive company will buy the rights to his invention, but if not, vows to keep working and bring these tires to the market on his own.

WeÂ’ve seen so-called omnidirectional wheels before but usually they simply pivot on a bracket or axle. These work much differently.

At about the half-way point of the video you will get a better idea of how the wheels work as close-ups are featured.

As it is, the video is quite mesmerizing as the Toyoto Echo appears to glide around the driveway.

Liddiard sees the wheels coming in at about $1500 each for a typical car.

For the last 8 years he has “obsessively” gone through various prototypes and has arrived at a model that can support a real car’s weight. However anything with wheels could benefit from this concept including personal mobility devices.
