I've been using an azbox hd stb for over a year now and still don't know what the difference is between a 4:2:2 and a 4:2:0 feed. I know my azbox is capable of scanning both in but cannot tell the difference. Anybody?

well on an openbox s9 it wont play (it will record so i can play on my pc).... on a twinhan 1020a its a marginally better pic (sd dvb-s only)... i dont have an azbox so i cant speak for that... none of my other recievers will play it (incedentally my pansat 3500sd logs it as a radio station)

there are other types of chroma sampling too, not just 420 & 422, a notable example would be 444, no reciever i know of would decode this (barring some super high end ultra expencive comercial stb costing in the million dollar range [joking about the million dollar thing])

Never heard of 444 before..and at a Million a pop no wonder..lol :D

With 4:2:2 the openbox and Manhattan will just display what looks like the old videocipher encrypted screen, and as you mentioned can be recorded to watch on your PC.

I think most people can get by without 4:2:2 unless your heavy into sports..would be nice if all stb's had the option but the chip costs come into play and really boost the price of the box.

Thanks for the info...:thumbup:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videocipher

I'm not as up to date on ku band but on c band I would say at least 30-40% of all live sports feeds are 4:2:2. That's why I have 2 azbox stb now for each band. If it's up there I want to see it.

k, most sites dont like it much i "played it safe"

Thanks, appreciated...were trying to be not like most sites..

Information is the key! and for our members if that means a link no problem. :brew:

I can't tell the difference in the colours there either.. But my eye's are not that great..lol

The only reason why I started this thread was to see if I could distinguish between feeds when I post. It seems to me that there is a fine line that seperates 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 feeds, I'll just report all future feeds as 4:2:2.
I'd like to thank you the_man_one for your help on this matter.

The Manhattan and openbox does 4:2:0 ....but not 4:2:2 like the AZ.

So you don't want to report feeds that are different and not viewable to some.

That makes it easier then, 4:2:2 will be the channel that shows up on the azbox but scans in on openbox and Manhatten stb that is let's say fuzzy.

Viper,

I did not want to say anything, but the new 4meg Manhattan may be able to handle the 4.2.2.. This is un-tested, but the factory implemented some new sw that may change that. Tony indicated he did not have any problems, but was not able to test allot of birds.

But for what he saw he thinks it might work! But again, we want to confirm when product arrives.

Just don't take my word for it at this time!

Thanks,

Jeff S.

That would be awesome Jeff if the Manhattan opens 4:2:2 feeds, could put a major dent in the azbox market here in North America.

technically all any stb needs is a codec if its running linux, the problem is that they use chips to decode video not sw (hopefully this is changed), the other problem is lack of space in the memory, if this happens to be true a manhatten is my very next box & comming soon

Hello again guys, this is a C/P I got on the net, I deleted the name of the person that it seems knows this STB from top to bottom.
Code:

[COLOR="#0000FF"]Last time I talked to *&^% the answer was NO it does not do 4:2:2.[/COLOR][COLOR="#FF8C00"]C/P[/COLOR]
I personally think is to bad it wont to 4.2.2
