New to true fta also

I am also new to true fta. I have coolsat 5000, visionsat and nfusion. they have all been sitting awhile and i have factory files for them. is it realistic to get 'c' and 'ku' from one motorized dish, such as a hotdish or similar? just getting started here in true fta and dont want to buy things i dont need. thanks for responses!

Hello, I moved your post so you can have your own thread Timbersdad,

If you have a Hotdish then you are good for KU sats, C-band requires a large dish 6 foot minimum, but the larger the better.

For KU your coolsat 5000 would be an excellent choice out of the ones your mentioned..great blindscan on coolsat..a motor for the Hotdish would get you some very good channels, apart from the HD channels.

I have a Coolsat 5000 factory file here in the files section that is a legal third party file, it's an improvement over the original factory file and works better for true FTA.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions, that's what were here for..

Welcome to the site. I would use the coolsat5k out of the three receivers you have, yes you can use your dish for ku but not c band. Minimum size dish for ku would be about 30" but for c band a dish of at least 6' would be required. I'm not quite sure but what size is your hotdish?

i havent purchased a dish yet. have been lurking and reading. i have several old dishes laying around, dish 500 basic 18" etc but am still in the market for a 30" + dish and lnbf. any recommendations on either?
I get alot of OTA HD with my antenna.

Timbersdad, I would definitely agree with Viper and Costa. For C Band go with a larger dish, minimum 6'. There are people playing with mini buds, 4 footers, but for serious reception, I would go 6 foot and, if you can, even bigger.

Thanks for all the input! Costatc... thanks, i have read through that thread, i gave me alot of insight.

As U can see Timbersdad I'm also starting out. It has been fun so far. expect when I had a bad motor replaced that. I'm have fun just learning the setup. & whats out there. If I can help just let me know. I update the thread as I think of or do new things.
Thanks for joining. My arc is 125 to 15 forgot to add I'm using a Coolsat4000 & a S10. waiting on a pansat 9200

Well I finally got a 39" dish and motor. Now to decide where to mount. The location i used to use when i could afford satellite tv years ago will not work, the new dish points directly at the upper floors of the house. will update as i get further along.

Try to chose the location for the dish with care because if your dish is mounted in a poor location, you will not get many satellites or channels.

As EB said, choose the location well. My 39" motorized goes from 125 down to 30W and the only reason I can't go lower is a tree. With the right location you will he happy with the results.
