OpenVix Edision 4k Images Added to TNAP Server

TNAP-Images
In years past, new enigma2 receivers would come to market several times a year. Without being specific, the new enigma2 receivers would help (monetary) support enigma2 images and enigma2 forums. There really are not many new users showing up on the enigma2 forums, and New enigma2 receivers have become extinct. The "New" enigma2 receivers we have today are pretty much 2018-2020 models with "lipstick" put on them so you think they are "New".

Since the current enigma2 support forums and enigma2 image builds are setup for new receivers coming to market, we are seeing financial stress in the enigma2 area. For example, up to the early 2020's say 2020-2023, you heard very little about enigma2 forum site donations, or enigma2 image groups admitting publicly they are struggling for financial support. The Money that could be counted on and was a 'Given" in years past has today dried up and we are starting to see the effects of it.

When the enigma2 money left, so did some of the developers. Maybe a few of the developers that left could probably be tied straight to the enigma2 money train. Who really knows? But there is simply no monetary incentive to be an enigma2 developer today, so we do not have as many. The developers that are left obviously love the satellite hobby as no other real incentive exists now.

In 2026 and 2027, some tough decisions will have to be made in the enigma2 support community unless something changes fast. This forum for example exists in part or is supported in part by the occasional, casual member donation, but by far and large, this forum exists because the owner is willing to pay for it. The tnapimages.com website exists because I personally pay for it.

So now that it has been explained that the enigma2 groups are suffering financially, OpenVix made the decision to cut its image support roughly in half about a month ago. This decision orphaned all Edision 4K image support from OpenVix, except for image building. Basically what OpenVix is saying is build your own image if we no longer support it. OpenVix does offer exceptional enigma2 image building assistance. However, building an enigma2 image repeatedly from sources can prove to be a daunting task.

This forum, legitfta offers technical support that far exceeds the basic image build and crosses into the latest in technology. We can for example have an AI (Artifical Intelligence) model setup an enigma2 build system and build the image, plus debug it along the way. But this costs money for the individual, and as most humans are reluctant to learn anything new, Not Attempted.

The enigma2 future will probably lean heavily on individual image builders at some point, but the AI assistants will also vastly improve over time. Also, we are not to this point yet and are still transitioning away from a monied enigma2 image. Surely you would think at some future time, brand new enigma2 receivers will appear, right? And someone will have to support them, so the future is not gloom and doom, rather it is transitioning into something else.

For the moment, a personal decision has been made to host the OpenVix Edision 4K images on tnapimages.com. These images will be built directly from OpenVix Release sources, with any edits or alterations to the image or build kept to a bare minimum. The idea here is not to have a TNAP-OpenVix. The idea or vision is simply to keep Original-Current OpenVix Edision 4K images available to the public for an unknown length of time.

Very thanks (y)

What is the password?
I'm trying to upload my updated lamed file and can't get in..
I've tried changing password to dreambox (what I always use), but it's still not working..?

Thanks..!!!

As far as I know, OpenVix has no default password. What are you trying to do? If you want to use the ftp file server, then you will need to set a password first using telnet and the command passwd

I'm trying to import my lamed file into it so I'll have my sat list and local channels
I use dreambox control center e2 to do this
It has a telnet or ftp I could use, except I can't connect

I've tried changing the password within the Network folder to no avail

If there is no password, I guess I'll start over and hopefully have better luck

Thanks..!!!

EDIT:
I've also rebooted after some attempts, still nothing
And I use dreamset to import my lamed file, but it won't connect

Well I reloaded the openvix and the telnet connected but the ftp did not
I used the telnet and created a password and now I'm getting in
Thanks..!!!!

I have no idea the difference between OE Haedknott vs Scarthgap..??

First, I want to thank you guys from this site for keeping alive this hobby.
EB is right about the future of e2 software; as far as I can understand, satellite technology will be almost gone in favor of the streaming through fiber optic technology, with few exceptions: space exploration, maritime navigation, some remote areas, GPS.
The demand for sat receivers will be diminishing, so no more interest in building new models if there will be no more sources of signal.
If the trend keeps going on, a multiboot device will be reduced to 1 maybe 2 slots needed to use.
I hope I'm wrong; only the future will tell !

I Think we will have something to watch on satellite for several more years. As long as there are satellites up there, we will probably have something to watch IMO.

Open Black Hole or OpenBH seems to be in financial distress. One of their big draws for years was skins, and now it seems their Skinner has disappeared. OpenBH is a great enigma2 image today, but they just do not have a lot of activity on their forum anymore. They advertise to need around 230 U.S. dollars a month, which does not go far when you start adding up costs that an enigma2 image site will incur. For years, Vu+ supported them. Now no more Vu+

Full Image-Backup is broken on OpenVix for Edision 4K receivers. It is doubtful to be fixed as these receivers are no longer "Officially" supported by OpenVix. The solution is to provide a stand-alone type plugin, or maybe you could call it an universal plugin to provide Complete image backup capabilities. This plugin works great and has more features than the built-in backup. Maybe someone wsill find it useful?
The name of the plugin is: "enigma2-plugin-extensions-tnapslotmanager" and is available for direct download at: tnapimages.com

The Edision feeds for OpenVix are still available for a bit on tnapimages.com. The OpenVix images have been removed.

I am not going to host images that have main menu defects simply because the developer is too lazy to fix them. And that is the current case at OpenVix --laziness or a lack of caring about how the image performs. All they had to do was delete the feature if they do not want it to be used. Would have taken only a few minutes to do this.

No more Vix images on TNAP feeds unless something changes. It is what it is. Use OpenATV or something else besides VIX.

Huh? Balls makes a valid statement:
"Where are you going with this? What does it have to do with ImageManager?"

I've used Backup Suite for some images. But ViX and others has the Image Manager that does a dandy job.
Well, at least for the Mio4k. It might be reverse frustration where pli, tee-nap, perverted everything simple and has to have a plugin? Ya' think?

Remember I asked where's terminal in the webif? And sorta' got a "terminal??? we don't need no steeningg terminalll".
Well, "We" do. Anyway.
I've backed-up slot images using ViX ever since moving away from ATV a few years ago. Talk about little mustached arrogant turds!
I appreciate having services available on a transponder when in Signal Finder. ATV? "You vant vat? Ve vill neffer implement something so schtoopit".
They even thought that the services appeared After a scan. Tried to coax them to try an image (ViX) with the feature.
Let's not even revamp the chinabox receivers showing the actual satellite you're receiving a channel on. Tuned to 101W but aimed at 105W....and the receiver shows the tp is in fact on 105W. "Beacon"? Something in the dvb stream that E2 devs, felt insignificant?
Maybe you have bleed-over and get 2 sats at the same time.....like I can using a side car ku lnbf on the 12 footer.
Crap like that would be more important to me rather than YouTube. I got my streamers for that.

Unless I'm mistaken. The core of Enigma2 is to make a satellite receiver. OBH does that but is so stripped of features....**poof**....yrrrr outta Here!
PurE2 is so cluttered and full of crap. With arrogant (one in particular) developers. It's just stupid. It's a satellite receiver for chrissakes!

On screen keyboard. Whoop-tee-do. Fire deceives, Roku, Apple. Bluetooth kb and mice. Minimal left/right/up/down....oops, screwed up....backspace, delete, clear. Type your search in and smack <enter>.

But waitaminnit. I got a satellite receiver. I got streamers to do Internet streaming. And they do it smoothly and seamlessly.
I'm not lost in the sauce wondering how to change my networking parameters, password, network services, etc. asking places like here where the hell is it and how do I do it. "Oh....you need to Putty in and opkg this and opkg that".

I feel sorry for anyone who uses an H7 for anything but a client receiver in a spare room. That's where mine was and has been destined.
As for adding a ton of crap plugins to it. Even Walmart doesn't have turd polish.
But. Maybe not for "it" (H7). Image manager with Vix, through the always-E2-usual process of going into the menus. Works like a peach.
Extract the hell out of it using 7Zip and you see everything you need if you need it. And it flashes back into any slot you wish.

Geesh. I cringe thinking of asking if there would be a way to boost the audio output of my Mio4k to more match the levels from the TV, Fire Cube, Roku. Because with the Sony set to 35-45% volume. A good listening volume for me. My Edision need to be almost floored and the TV needs to be cranked to 50%. "Vat!!!! You vant to do VAT???.....das is schtoopit".....or perhaps....."Bloke, 'ave a bluddy Guiness and fuhget it".

just a statement and observation. I need more coffee.

You have about 9 different topics in one post. I will answer the first topic which is image manager in OpenVix and is really the only one related to this thread.

Up until about 2 weeks ago if you made an image backup in the OpenVix image using any of the Edision 4K receivers or any variant of the Octagon SF8008, your end result was a backup consisting of about 500 to 700 MB of files. This backup could only be natively reinstalled in slot 1 of the OpenVix image. OpenVix Image backup had been broken for years and was being ignored.

About 2 weeks ago they suddenly decided to fix it here: [ImageManager] provide image backup/Recovery creation options for Osm… · OpenViX/enigma2@fb0b43b
[ImageManager] provide image backup/Recovery creation options for Osmio/sf8008 type receivers. The Image Manger in OpenVix now makes backups for the previously mentioned receivers correctly.

The Backupsuite and OpenVix Image Manager are both plugins. The Image Manager is a subset of the VIX plugin in System plugins.

OpenVix has pretty much washed their hands of Edision support yet sales banners still proudly display Edision. They have a right to support or not support receivers as they see fit, and overall they have had a good image for years. I will keep the Edison OpenVix images updated and on the TNAP feeds unless they become neglected.

There is very little enigma2 image development going on by OpenVix and most other teams. When the money left, the developers left. That seems to be pretty much the way it is. Currently as far as I know, the Edision 4k receivers are working correctly. One Vix skin and the Image backup were the only things that seemed to be broken. Both have been professionally fixed.
