The unit is incredibly reliable when it comes to tuning low symbol rates. However, the software will not allow tuning below SR 300.

Do you think it's a hardware issue or a software issue?

Honestly, without having the receiver, I do not know. Here is something to consider if the receiver came from Rick's:
You should be able to return it for a full refund and get your money back as the symbol rate is falsely advertised ( Symbol rates from 100 – 80,000 SR)
It is a shame that cheap receiver's like the GTMedia V9 outperforms it in the symbol rate area.

I'm willing to try some experiments with the receiver to see if it can do what it says it should. However, I've been out of the E2 loop for awhile. So if anyone wants to make me the guinea pig, go ahead..

I do not know if a solution for the low symbol rates exist or not. The version2 (SF8008 Supreme) was falsely advertised, and now it seems the Version 3 or V3 Is also falsely advertised. And no one cares about it.
Anyway, I would suggest to upgrade to TNAP 6.1 if you are going to run TNAP. This process is simple. Put a Good usb drive with a gigabyte or two of storage in the receiver, select Flash image in receiver menus, Select TNAP 6.1, then highlight and select the TNAP 6 slot (with backup). Press OK button on the remote, come back in about 5 minutes or less and it should be completed.
If desired, get the C and Ku band epg running. You can get a bit of epg if you can understand the setup: TNAP FTA Satellite EPG The epg topic is closed, but it does work.

The SF8008 is excellent for streaming. If you have a static ip, then you may want to consider the free Wireguard VPN or the firewall that is available to allow streaming over the Internet, and remote control of the receiver.
