Hello.

Thinking on upgrading to a better receiver with Mpeg4; seen some receivers featuring Wifi .
Are two USB to Wifi antennas needed to have one at the receiver and another at the TV/laptop? Or just for TV as a laptop may already have its internal Wifi antenna ?

Are all these USB/Wifi antennas the same or have to be matched/branded/compatible for the receiver ? Do they interfere with satellite bands reception or are those at 2.4GHz ?
The convenience I see is walking to the dish outside and adjusting it while watching the 'quality' reception on a laptop. -Makes sense ?

Am looking for a cheap receiver that will keep up with changes in received signals. If the Wifi thingy is only to receive internet television from a router, am not interested. Any suggestions are welcome.

Toys : 2m HH Unimesh + C/Ku feedhorn + X2mini receiver + Composite to TV.

You get what you pay for mostly. Buy a cheap receiver and you can expect cheap features. There are many tools available to adjust your dish. These tools vary in price from very cheap to expensive. You may want to look at getting one of these tools instead of worrying about Wifi.

Wifi is a two way communication, so transmitters and receivers are needed, both at the computer and at the receiver. Wifi may transmit and receive at the same time using a single antenna for the receiver or the computer. The computer and the receiver will need to have a Wifi connection. Usually there is a router between the computer and receiver.

Satellite L band or Line Band is 950MHz to 2150MHz. These frequencies are carried inside the coax and do not have much problems with weak Wifi transmitters interfering.

FTA/OTA is not free. You have to pay money for the equipment and money to maintain the equipment. FTA receivers that cost about the same as a tank of gasoline will allow you to watch some tv, but you cannot expect much more than that. Some people are on tight budgets, and the lowest cost products is all they can afford. But if you are not in that category, then consider spending more money to get a decent fta product that has the features you want.

I will take that got it wrong again. The Wifi feature advertised tells what they are but do not tell how they work. I thought that placing one antenna at the FTA receiver USB port and another at a TV USB port would enable a wireless link.
Seems like links only the FTA receiver to a computer, to watch the FTA program on the computer screen and perhaps the computer can do remote control of the receiver.

From my tight retired budget, am inclined to the ebay brandless generic $28 receiver without support site on the web or the $38 X2 mini Premium with its horrible user manual :(
 
All a Wifi does is use radio waves instead of wires to transfer information. I do not see a wifi doing you much good at this point. Many people are on a very tight budget, and lots of times, they end up buying several cheap receivers over a short period of time. I think it is better to wait a little bit and buy a better receiver that costs more instead of buying two or three cheaper models that have big issues.

Pay attention to the listed specs o a receive. Most of the time,the listed specs have errors, but they usually give you an idea of what to expect.
