In the year 2025, GitHub, which is one of many coding repositories went from 144 million developers to 180 million developers, which will be at least a 25 percent increase once all of the final additions are added. Think about that a minute. Not all, but a lot of those developers joined because they are now coding with AI. I have to say, AI is a great coding tool and can lead to amazing results if properly used.
But now we are starting to see AI plugins in the FTA community, and the people that present these plugins admit to having no coding knowledge, but somehow have this encrypted plugin that just well---sort of appeared I guess. Okay. Now what is the real story and what do we have? First, let it be known that I am not here to throw stones or grade someone's work, but I do take exception to using encrypted code in a FTA receiver for more than one reason.
Again, not to throw stones, but we will use as an example the AISubtitles plugin that is supposed to generate sub titles from audio which is great! But you have to have an AI assistant to use it which in a way puts this plugin into a pay category. What the real problem is for me is the code for this plugin is encrypted!
So you have a plugin running on your fta receiver that is encrypted, and you have to pay to use it! The main question is: Why encrypt it? Let's look at its code which is a one liner in a file named plugin.py:
I understand people are not familiar with code, but what you are looking at is called obfuscation.
The deobfuscated code is attached for anyone to review. And that is what python code should really look like. Pay attention to what you are putting into your receive and your computers! The author of this plugin may have nothing but good intentions. However, he professes to be a beginner, but is using professional code and techniques. It is possible an AI wrote the whole thing for him, but why encrypt it?
Pay attention folks as it will get worse, not better. Understand what you are putting in your receiver and home computers. Encryption, especially like this in a FTA receiver is a big fat red flag! Just because the encrypted code is clean now does not mean a future update to this plugin will be clean. When you see something like this, do not use it! THINK!!!

Why This Is a Critical Problem:

- Cannot Verify Purpose: Without deobfuscating it, there's no way to confirmit actually generates subtitles or uses AI. It could be doing anything:

- Stealing credentials or network data
- Using your receiver as a botnet node
- Exfiltrating EPG data or configuration
