will this lmb work for true fta

i have the stand and the mounts but the dish is gone i think it was a 12 foot dish.(it was a BUD) i have a pansat 2500 i was wanting to hook up. (i like the little box has a polarity switch on the back and its only a closet monster now.),that will be a a thread for the newbie section.lol

but this lmb says perfect 10 on it it came with the trailer the landlord cut down the pole dang it. but i'll put in an add in free cycle to get a bigger dish to play with.i didn't know if this was anygood for anything besides scrap metal

Any chance of getting some pics with the cover off, justeric1agn. Looks very similar to the LNB that came with my 7 1/2' Perfect 10 and that was for analog only. With pics of the LNB cover off, it will be easier to tell what it is.

All lnb's can be used weather for analog or digital. The only difference in them is how stable they are when it comes to "drift" Frequency drift affects all lnbs. The higher quality ones, (and the newer ones), have less drift. The older a lnb gets will also affect the performance, however for the newbie they will work. The problem with too old a dish is that some might still have an lna (low noise amp) attached. Those you you will need to replace. Have a great day!

We'll have a much better idea when you remove the nose cone. However, those are usually relics from long ago. I'd invest in a new lnbf and especially considering how inexpensive they are now.

Probably better to spring for a new Eric,

I'm sure the guy's here with give you some great advice on one that wont" break the bank..

like i said that would be a descusion for the newbie section. lol i never set up a bud before and know nothing but what i have read. this site makes me want to set one up though. i figured this thing was a relic from the past and won't do HD.lol but wanted to know what it was before throwing it off to the scrap metal people. i don't know what band i'm looking for.lol just don't want to throw away the old pansat. been thru alot with that little box.lol its been huffed and puffed so many times and it still never gave up. not wanting to retire it.lol i'll read alot more before i ever by another one. do have a few local people that can help me put one in when i find another BUD.but i will be asking alot of questions.lol thanks

With the proper receiver and a properly aligned dish, one can get HD, Even with that old lnb, I would concurr however that you spring for a new one. I bought a C\Ku combo lnbf for 49 bucks. It came with scaler ring too but I used my old scaler as it was heavier built. As far as aligning the dish, please see this thread...http://www.legitfta.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4930 It is alot of reading, but should give you all you need to know. The lnb you have is sufficiant to get the dish mounted and aligned. Get a new one later if you wish. If you also don't have a receiver that is capable of getting HD, again I would wait till the dish is up and running then worry about expanding your horizons. Have a great day! :th_thumbs20up:

that looks identical to one I pulled off a bud 2 years ago. I have several of those servo motors as well, there used for switching polarity between v/h. I would suggest a dmx 741 for both c/ku or a geosatpro c 2 for c band only.

I would suggest a dmx 741 for both c/ku

Thats what I run and have been very satisfied. The price was right too. Around 50 bucks when I bought mine. I ran seperate lines for c and Ku bands as opposed to using the switch that is built into the lnbf. That way I have one less switch to worry about if I have problems with my setup that needs diagnosed. I feel that the bypassing of the switch also allows for a better signal. But that is only my opinion. Have a great day!:D

thanks thats what i was wanting to know. i was wondering if it would work to just set up a pansat to get started.lol thanks for the response. i just want to get started and not spend any money. lol but if i can find a bud hook it up and see what i can find.lol then find out what i need to watch tv. like i daid in the noobie section.lol

You are welcome to try that lnb and see what channels you can get with it. But remember this: There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find a satellite signal with a broken or dead lnb.

A single c band lnb is cheap. You can find a new one for twenty dollars or less.:yes1: EB

All you can do is hook it up and see. Receivers have a "level" (signal) and a "Quality" meter on them. If you hook it up and get a high level, (70 - 80 %) it should work to get you started. The signal part of the meter tells you how much power is being reflected back to the receiver from the lnb. If you get low level, or peg the level out, chances are that there is a problem. One step at a time. That said, EB is right on reccomending getting a new one if possible. Have a great day!

You could just go for a drive and look at peoples yards. See a dish then knock on the door. If they think you are scrapping, they usually let you take it. If you are lucky, you might even get an old receiver they might have in the closet. An old c-band receiver will move the dish without having to buy a mover. Have a great day and happy hunting!

Your pansat would be ideal if your planning to test out that old lnbf as your receiver can accomodate the servo motor wires for both polarities.

got 6 hits today with freecycle 3 of them have BUD;s i can come get one is a hughes net sat internet dish one is direct tv.lol i'll have to write each one back 2 see what they have. i'll post them and let ya'll tell me which one will fit.

You want a BUD. The internet and direct dishes are too small. Minimum 6 feet, prime focus dish. Like this one.....(see pic)

Now that one is a buttonhook. named for the single arm in the center that holds the lnb. If possible get a tripod or quad mount. That one will have three or four supports extending from the dish that hold the lnb. The one in the pic is mine and measures 10 feet. I have a post in the C-band section with more pics and showing how to support a buttonhook arm for maximum performance. Have a great day!

Costactc's avitar is a good pic of a quad mount.....
