AI Assistant for Enigma2 Satellite Receivers

North America has no EPG on C band. The EPG information for North America is available for lots of channels on both C and Ku bands, but it has to be hunted. There are versions or instances of some users getting EPG to work for C band and Ku band, but it is usually a complicated thing that seems to only work properly for them.

We can introduce AI directly into the FTA receiver. Doing this of course requires an Internet connection. But, since AI is an assistant, some otherwise amazing things could be done such as populating the EPG for all channels that have EPG somewhere on the public Internet. Cleanups to the receiver, edits to the receiver, automatically fixing crashes (for whatever reason) are also possible.

So I had a conversation with Claude Code about the vision or idea of installing the AI directly into the SF8008 receiver. I figured it would go nowhere, but the AI has other ideas. "OK" I said "Prove to me that it works. Tell me what is playing on Heroes East now and what will be next". To be fair, I pointed the AI to Lyngsat for channel and transponder information . The AI did his search and came back with a website I had never heard of, then produced the correct information I asked for. Nice!

Next is how to implement my EPG discovery. This part of the conversation got a bit lengthy. Then I requested a complete report which is attached. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code all have a great understanding of enigma2 systems and how they operate. So once you get the AI into the fta receiver, the battle will be pretty much won, as you would simply allow the AI to access the parts of the receiver you want him to have.

Putting the AI directly into the FTA receiver is one of my main goals. Once this is done, the door is wide open on what can be accomplished. The attached .md file explains the process and serves as a starting point. This aint no small project and would need to be implemented in steps. An Android phone connected to the fta receiver would probably work best, then you have voice control! We will see...

These .md reports generated by the AI's are mainly put here for my reference, and because I think they may be interesting to others. On some projects, TSDuck for example, several .md reports were generated in the process of adding it to TNAP command line. A couple of .md reports were drawn up discussing the TSDuck implementation and several more were made while getting TSDuck implemented into the receiver. You can take all of the .md reports on a subject and present them to the AI as a set of documents, who then becomes completely aware of what you were doing and how you got to where you are at. This saves valuable time and money.

This is the best FTA project.

I did read the first one, very detailed..I will read this one also. I wish more people would read what these AI bots can do. I have a hardtime understanding all the code stuff, but they do break it down so most can understand the goal and how to move forward with the goal. anyway great job doing all this reasearch.. information that no sites have that I know of about fta

The EPG shown in post 2 is a "work in Progress". The EPG data is obtained using free online sources, and is generated using scraper scripts. All of this technically could be installed on tnapimages.com since the receiver feeds from there anyway. In other words, this EPG can be set to generate and refresh automatically with the receiver getting EPG updates automatically. Interesting indeed! The AI set it up, but it will run automatically...We will see eh?

I am quite surprised that coders on other sites have not explored the advantages of using AI to assist them in their endeavors. I am guessing that box developers will eventually use AI to cut costs and development time.

A couple things,
There is a definite learning curve or even an art to using AI in a way that gives the desired results. Then you have the error factor where the product you get contains errors. So AI is really still in development at the Public Level. Within the next 5 years, you may see AI chips in FTA receivers. And you will start seeing more developments in FTA that are direct products of AI or developments that are enhanced by AI. The enigma2 skin is a good example.

AI leaves traits or evidence in directly made products that show in a very distinct way they are AI generated. I see these traits more often in FTA now. So AI is being used in FTA, even if it is not being acknowledged. I encourage the AI's I work with to sign their name or acknowledge the source as that is what you would want to do with a person. Give credit where credit is due. This is proper and respectful.

Claude Code has a tunnel (Link) into my SF8008 receiver, but he is limited on what he can do. For example, he cannot run commands such as init, chmod, chown....etc. but he can move freely through the SF8008 while it is running or if enigma2 is sleeping. So I show Claude Code a screenshot that has bogus Weigel EPG, and he in turn interrogates the receiver's files, then forms an idea of what the problem is.

Earlier with Claude Code, say around February 2025, I would have problems building the enigma2 image, and he would try to start the image build by himself to investigate, which he failed to do. So I would have to tell him something like: "I will do the image build because you are unable".

About 2 weeks ago, the same scenario happened where Claude Code started the image build process which made me chuckle as I watched. "Look at this fool" I thought. But then something unexpected happened. Not only did he start the image build, he sat there and debugged the crashes! All I had to do was watch. Simply amazing!

So having seen what this AI is capable of with the image build, I can only imagine how things would progress if I can Get Claude Code into root of the FTA receiver. Anyway, after Claude Code tunneled into the receiver and investigated, I got him to write the attached report about the bogus EPG. He has a plan. I should let him implement it I guess.

I've been checking the latest free version of Gemini and it seems quite helpful in many situations. When asked for specifics regarding the S&P500 it always falls back to "undetermined factors" (loop answer) regarding the answer to a question. But, it does supply a vast amount of info to analyze the question. Quite impressive.

You say that there are skins that used AI to assist in their development.... can you mention a name, I would like to try them out?
