Orby TV

Looks like a shell company of Dishnet to me. I especially like all the comments from the SatGuy thread by people who do not actually have the product, but think they know everything about it. Very funny to read.

Probably is dish trying to get some cord cutters back. Before you know it they'll say the company was sold to dish and the price will go up.

:lolsign: This guy has all the answers, think he's tek2000's kid.

Orby's bitrate's been reported to average 250-700 kbps. Audio is 66 kbps. HD I doubt it. :rofl2:

If they add a few more channels later on and the HD pix quality improves, I might cancel DTV and give them a try if they're still around. But, it's refreshing to see a little competition popping up. Hope they survive and can continue to make a profit at lower price. If they use the same business model as the IPO streaming services (low initial price offering and a year later jack up the prices similar to cable, DTV and Dish, they may not survive.

I am getting tired of the yearly January rate increases with DTV. Plus the service sucks since ATT took over.

I Know when I got the ATT letter saying my price was going up $3 more I said that's it. Called last week and shut it off. Got a letter in the mail a few days ago with a $34 a month offer for a year if I would come back. I am happy with just Locals and FTA but I would like the basic channels orby offers. Thinking about that service.

I have not subbed to anything since I got my first c-band dish in 1991, back then everything was open to see.
things changed and there was other methods that we won't go into here.

Now I have my mind boggling 6 OTA channels and FTA, I also have netflix for my movie fix.

I don't have time during the week to watch much at all, weekends are TV days and I have plenty for that.

I just can't justify paying for some sub that I may only watch on the weekends, if you don't have other things around the house to do.

Not a word from Rainier about the new Orby Service. I wonder why? He usually has so much to say that it takes ten different nics or accounts to say everything. It is always fun to watch Rainier talk to himself or answer his own questions by using a different nic, Really interesting that he has nothing at all to say about Orby.

For the wife, it's the simplistic setup that provides everything in one place with the recording and playback convenience and search functions from various room locations. Much easier to search DTV for future shows than having to go to Titan, Zap2it, etc., to find something.

But for Orby Tv, go, go, go.... really hope you succeed and don't make the mistake of getting greedy with the pricing structure.

I will be watching their progress too, just in case I decide to switch.

It's getting harder to negotiate a discount with DTV unless you actually shut their service off. Sometimes makes one think that they purposely want you to cancel. Great business model on their part.

He found making You tube videos is more fun....

Its funny how they will offer you Country Music Television with the basic package, but in order to get Great American Country included, you must pay for the next level up. That ploy worked on me when I had Dish over 10 years ago.

I bought one on the first day it was available and self installed. Had an issue getting it to update and display the EPG from my FTA 90cm dish with a linear LO 10750 LNBF. Once I was able to force an update from the factory firmware to the current version, the receiver works perfectly with the 90cm and linear LO 10750 LNBF. I am changing the single to a dual output linear LO 10750 LNBF on the shop motorized 90cm to park on 117w for the Orby receiver when not surfing KU. Hooked up to an OTA antenna with a diplexer and the tuner sensitivity was as good as the one in a late model Sumsung TV. Scanned in the same number of channels and incorporated into the channel list with EPG! :)

Figured that a pay as you go, flat $40 (no additional for taxes) option would be good for using in the RV and then to store it if I decide not to use it at the shop. There are no activation/disconnect fees and no contract. I set it upo to manage my account online, but some have reported that the account can be managed by calling customer service. Spending $99 for a subscription side car to my FTA system makes sense for me.

Uses HEVC so the encoding is very efficient with the surprisingly low bandwidth. I think that 12 channels are 1080i/720p and the rest are SD. Believe it or not, the SD channels have decent PQ and are better than the same versions on my Suddenlink cable. Have 41 channels in the $40 package.

I recognized the head of sales as a guy previously with Voom. Looking at his Linkedin page, it looks like he brings a lot of experience to the game and has built media distribution platforms and prior business with Best Buy. I don't think that this service has any connection to existing DBS companies.

Yes, Rainier is mighty quiet on this product. LOL!!! Orby was able to put together a real package of channels over the past year that Rainier has promised to be available soon.... for the past 5 years! Well, I guess someone can get contracts signed! I am sure that Glen will offer up the same BS with lame excuses why the Rainier package is so much better and why someone should shell out a minimum of $700 for old superior technology. :rofl2:

Sorry for the kiss my ass on the post above... My MISTAKE!!!! Unable to remove! Sorry!!! All Good!!!

GO GO ORBY!!!!

aimed a 1 meter dish that way,but they say it can only be activated by an installer.
website chat the woman said I have to use an orby dish.
I got nothing with my 80cm dish.
openbox s10 and gsky v7 scan the channels as radio channels, which was funny.
