TNAP-7 Image Discussion

TNAP-Images
TNAP image number 7 will take a different direction than previous versions. There exists on the Internet an image building environment for Dreambox that is maintained by Fairbird. Also, OpenPLi, OpenATV, Open-Alliance and Hains make this build possible, along with many contributors.

The build environment as it exists on the Internet only supports Dreambox. There are not any build directories for other images. This means support for other images has to be added, and the supplied enigma2 has to be edited or altered. This constitutes some work, but in return, we get a very modern build environment. As of today, the Yocto 5.3 build layers were released in December, 2025, and the last python 3.14 update was also in December, 2025.

This build is somewhat of a challenge, but very "doable". Current tests using Octagon SF8008 have been very encouraging. Add the fact that you have OpenATV. OE Alliance blended into the build, and you end up with a very promising end result. Regular TNAP features work without issue on those that have been tested.

Currently only one TNAP receiver image is available, which is Octagon SF8008. The other supported TNAP images will be added as time permits, providing everything works out OK. Making this image work on models besides Dreambox is time-consuming. But I think the image itself is worth it. This will take some time.....

An Octagon SF8008 TNAP-7 test image should be available for download at tnapimages.com later this evening. This test image boots and runs well on the features that I have tried. Bugs may exist, but the image should boot-run-work for anyone trying it.

Since this image is based on OpenPLi, our settings and other files transfer. You may restore settings, but expect errors when doing that as some things may not be available. They way I did it was to install the image, mount it on the usb drive and transfer /etc/engima2, and etc/ tuxbox folders. Doing this gives me a runnable image immediately when TNAP 7 is booted. Other methods may be used, including a "Clean Install" where Nothing is transferred.

We will have to see how this turns out in time, but so far, very promising it is!!

The idea right now is just get the images where they will run and boot. The Edision 4K's had some complaints that have been solved. Initial Boot will be 720p 50Hz. This can be solved later, and set to a 720p 60Hz boot. In TNAP-7 as it is right now, Make sure settings are saved or save them during installation. Boot into TNAP-7 slot. wait a good 5 minutes. Press OK on the remote, then press OK on the remote again and the restore process should start. The restore may take some time.

The way the image is set, Language comes up first as it is assumed you can see the tv screen. Then the prompt for restore.

Working good on the sf8008.
Found a problem with channel selection screen and pressing the menu button twice for channel selection settings did show a software problem.
Also installing PlutoTv plugin from download plugins and launching PlutoTv shows a software problem and did not start the plugin.
Thanks.

Excellent!
Got to know what the software problem is to solve it or possibly solve it. A crash log or something that points to the problem would help. screenshots of the problem, logs...etc. Thanks.

Something to remember:
This image is on python 3.14 while almost all other images are on python 3.13 or less. Any .pyc files that were generated with python 3.13 for example will throw an error. This may be common for a bit on plugins that are not in the feeds!

And their may also be image crashes, which should be stored (default) /home/logs. So she is new and there will be things that do not work. Overall, I think you will find a good-running enigma2 image.

The 0130 image for SF8008 is available at tnapimages.com and in TNAP-6.x receiver menus. This update should make the remote control more responsive, at least in the SF8008. It should also solve the crash(es) that were previously listed.

What you are seeing mainly right now in TNAP-7 is the Dreambox enigma2. Very little of TNAP is in it. TNAP EPG and other items that I am used to are not yet available. And all of the main groups image can be flashed except for TNAP! Plenty to work on...However, my testing shows a very stable image. Sure there is a crash somewhere, but I think they can be eliminated quickly as most of them so far have been Dreambox related.
