TNAP-6 Image Discussion

I installed enigma2-plugin-skins-xDreamy_6.0.0_all.ipk but it didn't populate. Then tried installing enigma2-plugin-skins-xDreamy_6.1.0_all .ipk and got this error.

To be clear, a skin does generate or populate epg. A skin can improve the way epg is presented or shown and xDreamy does that very well. To populate epg, you have to have a source for it. For example, some terrestrial stations in the U.S. provide epg in their stream. But there is no epg in the skin itself.

So, in other words do I have to turn on some of the EPG sources in EPG menu ?
I was on MEtv, Movies chanels & other fta us stations, but no joy.
I loaded xdreamy in openbhn slot, and same result.
My feeling is that xdreamy does not populate epg on edision stb, just on sf8008.

The skin does not make or provide epg. The skin does show epg possibly in different ways. xDreamy for example shows posters for the programs. Most skins do not do that. Consider these two:
epg1_20250901132643.webp<--------------------->epg-2_20250901133600.webp

For FTA channels such as c band, the epg information generally has to be fetched from a source, then added into the receiver in a way that the receiver can recognized and display it. Not exactly the easiest thing to do. EPG for FTA channels takes a bit of work. I do like the epg posters that are displayed in xDreamy, but most of the time, I prefer just a simple skin. A complex skin such as xDreamy takes more resources to run as compared to a simple type skin that just shows the basics.

Well, I found out that xdreamy srew up my asc1 (witch is 80% reliable!), so i had to go back to the original tnap image & rescan all my sat in the list. Same thing happened to my friend's mini.
I read on another forum that one user of xdreamy, asked inspiron about a file he found on a subfolder:
"in the usr\lib\enigma2\python\Plugins\Extensions\xDreamy there is a folder ".qodo" with some file "history.sqlite"
Do we need this or you forgot to del it?!
"
inspiron admitted that he forgot to remove it:
"Just forget it, sorry...."
Who knows what else he forgot inside the image.

No Promises Being Made!
It looks like a limited amount of epg will be available in TNAP images soon. FTA EPG in North America has always been problematic and for the most part, simply does not exist. Then when we did get EPG, it populated to other channels causing a mess. Terrestrial ATSC, 117w ku, and 67w ku ALL populate epg. Unfortunately, there is little we can view on these channels due to either encryption (67w), or unable to understand the content(117w). ATSC epg does work for the stations that have it in the stream.

So the first step for North American epg is straightening the mess in getting the epg to stay on the channels it belongs to. That is solved here: EPG Contamination Fix

The second step for North American epg is finding an opensource for the epg which begins here: GitHub - jef/zap2xml: 📺 Automate TV guides to XMLTV

The third step for North American epg is building and modifying a grabber for the epg, And this is where having a bona-fide-paid-for AI assistant or two comes in handy, but not 100 percent necessary either for a determined individual that can read.

The fourth step for North American epg is assigning the grabbed epg to their proper channels. It is great to have epg and it looks impressive in a screenshot, but it is useless if it does not apply to the channel programs.

The filth step for North American epg is automation. Again, this is where having a bona-fide-paid-for AI assistant or two comes in handy, but not 100 percent necessary either for a determined individual that can read.

The Weigel channels should have epg in TNAP images at some point, and probably a few ku channels scattered about. After that, put up directions on how to add epg channels, which I doubt few if any do. This TNAP image thingy is pretty much a one-way street. A few people help put it together, then it is downloaded and distributed to various places where it is Bitched and Griped about....All the way to Egypt at one point. If people would simply come here and talk about their issues, they may or may not be resolved. But downloading a copy and running to your little corner of the Internet and bitching about it shore aint gonna help!

Now that I have explained things, here is what a future TNAP image should produce at minimum in FTA epg:
101w-epg.webp

EPG Instructions:
Any epg questions should be posted in the thread linked above.

I just updated to the latest version of TNAP6 for the MIO4K 20251008, but I can no longer find the “extras” for the different options (T2MI; No T2MI; europa 10490, etc.) in the Plugins.
Where are they?

Thank you very much for your reply (y). For some time now, I had put satellite reception with receivers aside and had not been following the latest news.
I am in Europe, and there are many T2MI and amateur radio frequencies between 10490 and 10500, which is why I need all the drivers available. This is one of the great advantages of Edision.

Yeah. Ummm. Trying out TNAP 6 in a slot. No Webif, no FTP.
Oh! A firewall! Okay. Killed it. Now I have both.
I might be dumb but I'm not an a 192.168.1.XXX LAN. Didn't see a way to edit the rules in the GUI.
Need little help? It's not the duck's fault.

I did delete it once I figured out the firewall was the issue.
Not so sure why one is needed or what advantages would be afforded by having one on a satellite receiver. Anyhow.
A short note in the gui telling you where the config file location is would be cool. But without FTP access. Probably the most popular way to access the file system. Yeah, you know.
And the firewall kills webif access also. I would think that since most everyone doesn't connect directly to a cable modem, ont, etc. but rather through a router. The router firewall does its thing nicely. Agree?
Even if another firewall flavor was integreted that allowed direct config. edits. First thing that comes to mind would be iptv plugins.
No biggie really though. Just being able to shut the firewall down on demand would be cool without deleting it.
hah. why is she lining up for a shot on a solid? dirticus-claudicus didnl't come up with pool games not using the cueball.
her mom is pretty hot. daughter jessie needs a lot of stairclimber time though.....a lot!

Two links were provided in post #438. You would probably understand the purpose of the firewall if you read both of them completely. Anyway, to explain:
OpenWebif was updated to allow streaming to smartphones, and in the process, it was discovered there were no security provisions for streaming. You get all sorts of unwanted traffic that includes hackers and attackers once OpenWebif is configured to allow incoming connections. Read: OpenWebif - Update

Say a guy wants to listen to the ball game out in his workshop, or maybe listen to some music while driving. The OpwnWebif can be configured to allow phone and other connections from the Internet, which would then allow the music or game to be listened to. But you need protection of some sort else you get unwanted connections to your FTA satellite receiver. The best security will be a VPN system such as wireguard, followed by a firewall.

The current TNAP version of OpenWebif has some added protection against brute force attacks which is also explained here: OpenWebif - Update
Anyone that has websites or deals in Internet security usually knows that you want multi-level security features. Users that want to stream for whatever reason should be able to do so without worrying about the FTA satellite system being compromised. The ancient firewall system was resurrected and rebuilt with this in mind.

So now maybe you can see the reasoning for a firewall? The firewall was added to the regular image build for testing, then removed to feeds where it resides now. My apologies for you being exposed to it inadvertently! Specific details about setting up the firewall and what file to edit are in the documentation for the firewall. Adding a provision to edit the firewall file in /etc/firewall.users using the firewall plugin menus was not done because plugins such as Dream-Explorer and File Commander can already do this. The Dream-Explorer plugin is loaded at default. No ftp capability needed.

As for the bootlogos and radio logos:
Anyone is welcome to submit ideas. The pictures have to be in a proper format.... It is a helluva job trying to code this stuff where it will work. What is seen on a screen for a few seconds is one of my lesser concerns.
