Just loaded TNAP-5 for the Edision OSMio 4K Plus for the first time (via USB).

Cool background pic while booting!

So far so good.

Thanks elbandido and the testing team for your hare work, it is appreciated.!

I can't really answer that. You can try online and see what happens.

The infobarweather has to be added. It is not something that is built automatically. I have added it now, and it will be available when the feeds are updated. Will let you know. Thanks.

Loaded TNAP 5 from online download yesterday. I have a question. In TNAP 4.2 when I push the green button it brings up a satellite list. After choosing a satellite I push the green button again and it brings up the scanned in channels.
In TNAP 5 the green button does no longer do this. Is there a way in 5 to do this?

Also I like to have my display on the front of the box turn off when I turn off the box. I wasn't able to find that either.

Thanks for your hard work. Oh and I don't have a clue how to add a file to my TNAP 5 slot. Can the 103 radio channels be added in updates or plugins(extras)?

Lee

EDIT: OK I found out how to pull up my satellite list. Bring up channel list. At the bottom is a button for satellite list.
Edit2: Ok solved the display being on in standby.

I'll have to check to be for sure but the Radio on 103w ku should be there already unless you over wrote the preinstalled lamedb and satellite xml. Just need to configure the satellite 103.0w SES 3 Mood Radio mux. They are working here but I did over write every thing with my own configs. I will flash a fresh copy of tnap5 in slot 4 and check that.

Yes. The radio on 103ku is preinstalled with Tnap5. The satellite to configure is 102.9w ku-band Muzak Radio channels. switch to radio mode then find the 102.9w ku-band Muzak Radio channels in the satellite list.

Interesting.

Loaded TNAP 5 from online download yesterday. .

TNAP 5 Should Not be available online as I have not yet included it in any previous feeds. So I wonder what you loaded?

Anyway, music channels on 103w-ku are included in a separate satellite so you can scan 103w-ku and not worry about losing the music channels. This was done because those music channels have to be manually entered into the receiver.

Default settings for TNAP 5 are shown below. This default will be overwritten if you "restore settings" that is different from this.

The test image may have some trash in it. Get a known-to-be-good, EMPTY USB Flash drive. Then do the following:

Download the image that has multiboot in the extension. Do Not unzip it. Put this image in the flash drive.

Insert the flash drive into the receiver. In the receiver menus, go to Flash image. Select the image you installed on the usb drive fro downloaded images.

Select a slot that has with backup written beside. Press the ok button on the receiver remote.

Then do absolutely nothing for 5-10 minutes. Installing the image and restoring everything is done automatically if you follow these steps.

Thank you el bandido. TNAP 5 with backup is now installed.
I then went to tuner config and 102.9 is there and I added my lnb ect.
If I remember in the past you don't scan for the channels.
I went to Radio and see my favorites(radio)
If i push the green button my satellite list comes up but no 102.9
I don't see it in web if either. Can you please help me out. I must be missing something or forgetting something.
Sorry to be such a pain.

EDIT: in signal finder I scanned the transponder and now have microspace61

by the .py extension,i think is a python 2 version.

It works on tnap 5 but I did see if you want to uninstall it you got to uninstall with the Remove plugins red button-Extensions-InfobarWeather. Then use Dream-Explorer and remove the InfobarWeather folder at usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions. Then reboot. If you don't delete the InfobarWeather folder you will have a crash loop. To fix that if it happens telnet init 4 then FTP in and delete the folder that way and then telnet reboot. All fixed. Probably better off to stick with the version in the feed.

Octagon SF8008 continues to get ATSC updates. The signal meter for Hauppauge 950 ATSC tuner should work now.

Any feedback on how the Hauppauge ATSC tuners are working in the SF8008 would be appreciated. A lot of time has been spent adding ATSC to this receiver.

I think OpenPLi needs to update the Openwebif for the Python3 and enigma2 client. Has the same version 1.5.2 as TNAP 4.2. Can't get OpenPli develop image or TNAP 5 image to work with Kodi and the enigma2 client on my Chrome cast. The Latest OpenVix image using Openwebif version 2.0.6 is working fine.
Not really a biggy for me as I can just boot into Vix or TNAP 4.2 when I want to use my Chrome cast and stream my channels in another room.

Well now after testing the OpenPli 9-rc image with the same version of OpenWebif 1.5.2 the streaming to the enigma2 client works fine so I guess it must be something with the version of enigma2 develop and not OpenWebif.

Here's my problem upgrading to TNAP-5 in slot 1. In TNAP-4.2, I had a setup for Intelsat 18 at 179.9. That didn't carry over to TNAP-5 so I went and blind scanned using NSS9 at 177.1W. I got my ABC Australia back but previously had a timer set up on 179.9. When I went to delete it I received an error on my Edision MIO 4k and the system rebooted. I then tried to reinstall the 4.2 from my backup but get an error and reboot again.

I couldn't figure out how to attach the log file so I just pasted it here:

I pulled the plug, thinking it would revert to booting to slot 1, but it got stuck booting again. I did a USB force install of 4.2 and was able to restore the last backup I made. I'm working again but with TNAP 4.2. My slot 4 is showing TNAP 5 with no backup. Going on vacation so I may attempt the update once I return.

I only tried the Magic skin because on my older Sony TV, the edges are cut off. (No way to adjust it as far as I know.) That means I don't see the last digit or letter of the menu screens and can't see the descriptions of the color buttons. I'm currently using Pd1loi-HD-night skin on TNAP 4.2 since I can at least see a partial digit or letter on the menus and partial word on the color buttons. It looks like the text size is larger on Magic too, which I liked. I'll get rid of it if it's going to be a problem. Vacation starts for me so I'll be away for a couple weeks and won't try TNAP 5 until I'm back. Thank you E.B.

excuse me for this question which is not directly linked to TNAP 5
My MIO4k is completely blocked (after a flash that didn't work properly) on one of the four images of the multiboot (it remains at 99% and is blocked) so I can't take another image.
because I no longer have access to the menu
I knew that you can directly call up the list of the four images of the multiboot when you plug in the socket
and pressing one or more buttons on the remote control and then being able to choose an image that works, I've unfortunately forgotten how.
If someone could explain it to me, that would be great, because at the moment my edision is unusable.

Online updates (10-10-2023) for TNAP 5 are available in the Software update menu of the receiver. You may also update using telnet commands opkg update && opkg upgrade

More items have been removed from the enigma2 scan files which opens up the scan. Opening up the scan will allow more channels and services to be found, but at the same time, can also allow duplicate services. This needs to be tested on different satellite dish systems. Please report any duplicate channels or other problems that are seen in scanning after this update. Thanks.

117w C band is a very interesting satellite to blindscan. Seems there is a little bit of everything on this satellite. I made a blindscan video of 117w after the latest TNAP updates were installed. I don't see any duplicate channels or problems with the MIO 4K after installing these updates. A scan log is also attached.

The Octagon SF8008 performs similar, but also slightly different than the current line of Edision 4K receivers.

As a comparison, Both the Mio 4K and the SF8008 will at times miss transponders with channels. The Mio4K(s) and the SF8008 will also find transponders that do not seem to exist.

The SF8008 blindscans noticeably slower than the Mio 4K receivers, but the SF8008 seems to be more consistent and logs more transponders both real and imagined.

So there are pluses and minuses to the Edision 4K receivers and the Octagon SF8008. Currently though, these are the best enigma2 blindscan receivers that I know about.

Attached are the blindscan results for 117w using the latest TNAP updates. Occasionally the SF8008 will duplicate a transponder with channels, but it is not enough to be aggravating. I haven't caught the Edision 4K receivers making duplicates yet.

The enigma2 debug has been altered as to what the scan shows in enigma2 debug log (terminal init 4 5 second pause, then [B]enigma2 [/B). Transponder results are shown at the end of the scan in the log as shown blue below:
No Transponders left: 63 Transponders Scanned, 2 Transponders Unavailable, 61 Transponders in /etc/lamedb.
What that means is the SF8008 found 65 transponders, 2 transponders could not be scanned for unknown reasons, and 61 transponders had channels. IMO, That is not bad!

Attached is the scan log and enigma2 debug log for the SF8008 blindscan of 117w.

The blind scan does seem better. Before, I was having trouble detecting all the transponders on 99W Ku-band. I even tried setting the position to 99.0 instead of 99.2 because some people say that the listings that have 99.2 are actually referring to the DirecTV satellite, but still couldn't get everything to show up every time on one scan.

Just downloaded TNAP5 to a spare slot. I have been using TNAP4.1. TNAP5 seems to be running fine.

I heard a rumour that if using a Hauppauge OTA USB receiver that TNAP5 will now display the SNR just like for satellites. But I find TNAP5 is the same as TNAP4.1 in this regard and only displays AGC value and BER. Anybody know if SNR readout is supported for OTA?

I downloaded the image 2023-07-17 to my PC from the TNAP5 folder. I transferred it to USB stick and loaded it from the Mio+ menus.

ADDED: I see now I can update the software via the Mio+ menus. I will do that now.

ADDED2: What do you know? SNR is working! Cool. Did I mention I was pleasantly surprised by the new TNAP5 graphic at startup? Every nerd gets to look at his anime dream each time he reboots.

I manually configured my satellites since I like to review them periodically anyway. I imported from my TNAP4.1 image my old bouquets so I didn't need to reconfigure all of them which was good. I now have TNAP5 up and running as my main image.

I like the Pluto TV feature. Lots of favourite channels are now in a bouquet which makes them easy to find and use. SNR readout on ATSC allowed me to grab 4 new UHF OTA channels. I see an improvement in the Positioner Setup function. Blind scanning is working better. Overall, I recommend anybody to update to this image.

Should not be any changes or difference in the timer area from 4.2 to 5.0 but I guess anything is possible.

Post the timer files that you are using and we will see if your problem can be duplicated.

The source for the AVL6261 driver found in Edision Mio4K and Edision Mini 4K has been made available. A user named ocean posted the mods needed to show a signal below lock , which is useful for dish alignment and other things. This mod was done on the AVL6261 T2MI driver and the symbol rate was also lowered to 500, whereas before it was around 1500 for T2MI version.

I have not tested it enough to know the capabilities, but it seems to work OK. Is anyone interested in testing this feature?

It appears TNAP5 no longer has available the plugin to add streaming URLs to our bouquets. This was a useful tool to provide access to favourite streams from a bouquet that I labelled "IPTV".

If this plugin is no longer available, is there some other way to accomplish this?

I've done this manually, to an IPTV bouquet I created, and using Notepad++ (which is a free download) here is my template, but be aware I haven't used it for some time, so some/all of them may now be obsolete. You can manually build your own bouquet, (or edit your own) by changing the info below to match your info. This file is located in:

P.S. I'm still running TNAP 4.2

Thanks for the tip of just adding to my current IPTV bouquet. It works! I didn't use your template. Instead I ftped into my Mio+ and copied the existing IPTV bouquet to my PC. I followed the format in my existing bouquet and added a new stream. I ftped the revised file back to the Mio+, rebooted and now I have the new stream in my IPTV bouquet.

This is actually better than using the plugin since that required me to use the remote control to tediously key in a very long string. With this method, I just copy, paste, edit using my PC.

I have discovered a new plugin in TNAP5 that totally outdates Add stream URL. It is called Freearhey Plugin. It installs by default when you install TNAP5. This plugin allows you not only to watch almost any online stream but also to download complete folders of streaming links into its own bouquet using the plugin's Export command. Once in a bouquet, you can record any stream in the bouquet live or using a timer just as you would a satellite channel. Forget about Add stream URL. It's no longer required.

I have never seen the T2MI driver scan like this. The lowest symbol rate I have found in blindscan so far is 500. The Stock T2MI driver will not blindscan below 1000 SR. Then you have the signal meter going below lock.

Hello el bandido
I only have the MIO4K (no +) is this the right Edision?
what do I have to do to be able to try this new possibility?
If you send me the modification and tell me where I should place it, I can of course try it out. (hoping it will be conclusive)

Mio4k....Give me a little time. Thanks.

Sort of surprised no one is interested in testing this....Then you have the signal meter going below lock....
I am very interested in the feature that shows a signal below lock and would be happy to test with my Mio+. My problem is my Ku dish is out of service until I relocate it in the yard. I can't do this until the weather improves. It's kind of cold and rains heavily almost everyday now...

I'm wiling to test the new feature also on osmio4k+. My question is if it doesn't work/like, can the box be reset it to the old driver ?
Another question is if the new driver will work with the actual settings (inside the box) , or it needs to be altered ?
Probably the hardware (elevation, declination), doesn't have to be altered, but EB can confirm it as he already tested the new feature. If there are any implications from using the new driver, I would like to know before.
thx.

Hello ,
I've just tried the modified version of TNAP 5.
The improvements are fantastic.
_In Europe, we can receive the 26° East satellite on which there is a frequency range reserved for amateur radios.
The only major difficulty is that it is outside the usual frequencies
10490/ 10500 H and often with SR below 1000
Until now, it was impossible to receive these frequencies with a universal LNB.
_With this version it is possible to receive these frequencies without any problem.
With the Mio4k, it was previously impossible to receive SR below 1000.
Now it should be possible up to sr 500 (image sr 789).
_ a great novelty is also to be able to see the signal of a non-locked frequency.

I haven't tried blindscan yet.

This would be a game changer to assist in dish orientation. I want this. If familiar with the satellite arc, I bet you could almost immediately get some kind of weak signal from a satellite even if elevation is not precisely aligned yet.

Today I was able to relocate my dish and my system is available again. I could test something with my Mio+ if required.

Also, it's been raised that TNAP5 Positioner Setup no longer displays tenths of a dB as previous images did. This makes it more difficult to manually position the dish precisely since you don't see the reading change until you gain or lose an entire 1 dB. Yet when you exit Positioner Setup, you can see the SNR reading with the tenths digit. Was this change intentional? Can it be changed back?

Actually you are programming 29 minutes according to your timer information.
10 Minutes --Where? 10 minutes at the beginning, 10 minutes in the middle, 10 minutes at the end....etc.??
I ran this same recording for some days and did not have any problems. I doubt you find the TNAP 5 file structure to be at fault because no one else has mentioned a similar problem here or at the PLi forum which TNAP 5 is based on. Some detective type work will need to be done to sort of pinpoint where the problem is. The problem needs to be fixed, whether it is in your system or in the image itself.

Updated. This might explain the slow blind scans yesterday with the test image. Their results were accurate but slow. After updating just now, I blind scanned 87W Ku and it found every single transponder in just 3:43.

The Positioner Setup with 2 decimal places plus the non-locked SNR readout make the Edision a DX-hunter's delight now.

Example of a frequency too low to be locked.
At position 28.2 to the east of the UK beam, as expected, I'm no longer receiving it.
A measurement with the TBS 6983 card indicates that it is more than 3 dB short of being visible.

This signal thingy should not be a big deal. Maybe some sort of explanation will help.

The AVL6261 driver was altered to show db signal below lock, Parts of enigma2 were also altered to show signal below lock.

What is happening to lme is simple: The previous signal is not being cleared by enigma2. This is happening because of the changes made to show signal below lock. A little bit of patience and this signal issue should be fixed.

Tnap 5 currently has 4 different modules, drivers, or whatever else you want to call them for the avl6261 tuner or demodulator. Three of these drivers have T2MI enabled, and "play" well together. The problem is the Non-T2MI driver is constructed a bit different than the other three and does not appreciate the modifications that were made to allow signal below lock.

Modifications have been made that apparently will allow all 4 of these drivers to exist and not interfere with each other. A separate entry had to be added in the enigma2 coding for the non-T2MI driver so it will display signal correctly. Setting up the T2MI driver to show signal under lock will take a bit more effort from the user in order to see signal below lock. I will see if this solution for the signal being shown on a dead transponder can be added to an online update this weekend along with a short explanation of what changed and where.

Now for the bad part of the db signal "fix".

The No-T2MI avl6261 driver will display what ever the value was on the Last signal when there is No signal. In other words, you may have a signal showing 13db when no signal exists as shown earlier by lme. So we have a 2 way split:

(1) The enigma2 code has to be written so the signal has to be locked for the No-T2MI tuner to display snr in db correctly.
(2) The T2MI drivers do not seem to care if the signal is locked or not to display the signal correctly.

We have a splitter that is not used in Antenna settings called Force Legacy Signal Stats. The default for this is Off (false). So default will run normal and when Force Legacy Signal Stats is set to ON, then enigma2 will set the signal in db whether there is a lock or not, providing of course there is some sort of signal to set.

So the proper setting in Antenna setup is shown below if you want to display signal below lock on the T2MI drivers that can do this.

Signal in db issues should be fixed with an online update.

The Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup should be set to OFF for normal operations.
The Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup should be set to ON for showing signals levels below lock. This feature is only available with certain tuner modules.

Support is ending for TNAP 5. I age revisions and updates should be available in TNAP 5.1.

TNAP5-MOD has been updated today, but for some reason it shows inconsistency on MIS type tp:
for illustration there are mis tps on 2 diff sats:

Nothing like this is happening on regular TNAP5.

Nothing like this is happening on regular TNAP5.

Apparently there is some confusion, so let's try to explain or clarify this stuff again.

Note: This only pertains to Edision Mio, MIO+, and Mini 4K receivers.

TNAP now has four(4) different avl6261 drivers that can be selected. (Two of these four drivers have been modified.)
TNAP now has two(2) signal settings in Antenna setup.
This means you have 8 possible combinations.

Drivers that have T2MI capability Do Not work on the multi-stream type transponder that is found on 121w c band. The only driver that works with that transponder is the Non-T2MI driver. The other 3 drivers Will Not Work on the 121w c band multi-stream transponder.

Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup has to be set to OFF for the Non-T2MI driver to work properly.

Modifications were made in enigma2 to allow the 2 avl6261 drivers that are modified to show signal below lock.
Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup has to be set to ON for the Modified T2MI drivers to work properly.

Here is a screenshot of 121w multi-stream tp using modded T2MI driver and Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup set to ON:
17999
(Notice the missing AGC signal???)

Here is a screenshot of 121w multi-stream tp using Non-T2MI driver and Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup set to OFF:
18000

Enigma2 Modifications to make all of this work were split in two.
Original Non-Modified Enigma2 code is accessed when Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup set to OFF.
Modified Enigma2 code is accessed when Force legacy signal stats in Antenna setup set to ON.

The multi-stream transponder not working on T2MI drivers is the problem of Edision or the Manufacturer.
The multi-stream transponder not working on T2MI drivers Is Not the problem of the TNAP image.

What channel(s) are on the multi-stream transponders for 87w? Post your blindscan log that shows these transponders and we will investigate.

Put simply, the multi-stream transponders on 87w are not identical to the multi-streqam transponders on 121w. You will need to find someone with a Good satellite card or something more advanced than a fta receiver in the signal department to know the exact difference. You will probably find one of the satellite multi-stream transponder is acm/vcm, normal or short frame...etc while the multi-stream transponders on the other satellite are not. A satellite fta receiver such as the Edision MIO cannot show these details, so you have no way of knowing what the difference is. Having active channels on the transponder would help.

It is a known fact the T2MI and Non-T2MI avl6261 drivers behave differently and return different sets of transponders in blindscan. That is Why they are included in the image. Unfortunately, there is not a way today to make One of these drivers do everything. It is what it is....

Also, Blindscan is Blindscan. More or less a crapshoot. Sometimes you can blindscan a satellite three times and get three different results. Other times, you can blindscan a satellite 5 times and get almost identical results each time. Some drivers and enigma2 images may blindscan better than others. You just have to find what works best for you and use it. This is not likely to change anytime soon.

Hello
With the latest version of TNAP 5 image and thanks to Ocean04's modifications
we can see since the end of 2023 the signals of the transponders which are not locked.
Here is a comparison of the results on the 30.5 East satellite (Arabsat) from Crazyscan and mio4K.
It's very comparable.

I have a crash log for TNAP5. TNAP5 will repeatedly crash any time I select the BVN transponder at 12147 H 3600 on 117W Ku. I tried rescanning the tp using Signal Finder. The Finder sees the tp indicating by its name that it has been updated to FEC 5/6. The Service List reports it sees the tp. But when I scan, TNAP5 again crashes.

Crash log is attached.

Added today: I did a fresh blind scan using Clear before scan switch. BVN can now be selected without crashing the system. Problem symptom is gone.

I don't play a lot with new images. Only done this about 6 times. But I have a MIO 4K plus I don't use very often and wanted to load TNAP 5. I've loaded TNAP 5 and TNAP 5test successfully in slots with or without backup and setting up the tuners is no problem but when scanning I have the same issue on all installs. When the scan is complete and you press the green button to accept the scan results I get a green screen "software error" and it reboots. No channels are saved. Now when scanning from the signal finder it saves the channels but any channel selected gives a green screen "software error" and reboot. Channels are saved but if selected after a reboot it green screens and reboots. I've deleted the installs and tried different slots but still the same results. There is a early TNAP 3.2 in slot one and OpenViX in slot three and they appear unaffected by the problems with the TNAP 5 installs.

Well I read this thread to see if anyone else had this issue but nothing reported like that. I did however see a couple of suggestions I tried. So I loaded TNAP 5 Test again and rain the updates. 44 updates later it became TNAP 5 (no test) and the green screens are no more. :)

Lately, I can no longer watch it; only a black screen appears with no audio. SNR is 11.2 dB. The transponder is DVB-S2 2/3 8PSK and is not encrypted. So carrier lock level is 6.6 dB. Anyway, If you will look under AVC in your attached, you will see it is 1920 X 1080 -25i.

The 25i part is unusual and most likely, your television cannot handle it. Running the service through the player probably converts it to something else. This explains why can view it using the player.

Unfortunately, there is not anything that can be done to fix WEDO Big Stories in the enigma2 image build right now. Some enigma2 receivers have no issue with this channel, but others do. Most likely, the manufacturer of the fta receiver will have to fix this.

Another version of Avalink firmware might fix WEDO Big Stories. Maybe someone will try that.

This is a good simple workaround. It continued to play well until I changed channels forcing timeshift to stop. Video quality was the same as originally broadcast (about 2 Mbps). Recording on the Edision also results in a file that can be played on the Edision without using any external apps.

Signal in db, Transponder lock/unlock, and lnb power will be added to the scan reports for the Octagon SF8008. It is unknown if the same features will be added for the Edision 4K receivers because the different drivers return different results.

Showing the signal in db for the scanned transponders helps to get a view of how the dish system is working. Knowing if a transponder failed to scan channels because it was unlocked is also useful. Shown below is a screencap of the SF8008 Supreme.

Signal in db and some other information such as whether the transponder is in a Locked state have been added to the scan reports. I find this information useful for several different things, and maybe others will find it useful for something too. The supported MIO receivers do not do a good job returning signal in db during a scan as compared to the SF8008 series, but the MIO's do return useful information. Try it for yourself and see.

To get this feature in TNAP5, perform an online update. This will most likely be the last update for TNAP5.

And even then sometimes the tuner kind of craps out. That's using a mio4k. Meaning further blindscan tries has me rebooting the receiver. It just refuses to scan and just sits there.
I was reading other sites pertaining to c band on 1 meter dishes. 5.8 dB here is marginal. I do get some inconsistent locks and frequent broken video and audio. The picture is kind of like it has green panels. Like a Rubik's Cube.
By chance have you removed the scalar entirely and tried to get a signal? You mentioned that you have moved that and the lnbf all over to get the best signal.
My thoughts are that dishes that small are always for ku and ka band reception. And cast in place scalars on those are quite small.
Ku band on my sidecar lnbf on the big dish with down to something like 5 dB locks signal just fine and no issues at all. C band with 8-9 dB is spotty at least.
I wonder what would happen if a person had another small dish or two and cut them with a jig saw into petals to add to the O.D. with angle brackets of a small to dish to make it appear bigger.

I notice that the multi-satellite scan function is not working now after the update. I occasionally use this function to quickly check all C-band satellites in the arc. I prefer using single-satellite blind scan but this takes longer.

Saw your post and pics on satguys....
The visual quality received depends on type of signal (DVB-S / DVB-S2), modulation (QPSK, 8PSK, 16APSK...etc.) and FEC value. As long as you receive at least at or near the C/N lock value for a particular tp then visual quality will be fine. On C, minimum C/N lock values can vary from 2.7 dB up to 11 dB and higher. These can be seen on Lyngsat or just be looked up on charts: [Only registered and activated users can see links] CNR%2C_CN_for_DVB_S2_system.html

Happy to carry on discussing your comments where I posted my 1m C-band scan report.

The signal lock requirements are the same for Ku and C band (see Link below). It all depends on the modulation type and the fec.

[Only registered and activated users can see links] _CN_for_DVB_S2_system.html

Mis-matching parts or using parts such as lnb(f)'s that are not designed for the satellite dish may cause other problems including picture break-ups, pixelation and artifacts even when the signal is above lock. There is a lot more channels and programming on Ku band than most people realize. But you won't be able to receive much unless the dish system is designed for Ku band and the proper Ku band parts are used.

Hey.It's an experimenters world here. Package deals like days of old are long gone for most fta guys. A 1 meter dish for c band? I'd never even believe it could be done and honestly never even gave it a thought. But. I read too much. Then again. Look at Winehouse. Maybe she should have said yes, yes yes.
So good job Cyberski!
As for the whole signal lock thing. Nah. Not really. At least for the mio receiver. Same mod., sr, fec. Unless it's the convoluted hard coded software. Using the receiver's signal meter I can pretty much say forget about it if c band signal isn't at least around what I stated above. No lie. Ku band.....it locks and give a good stable picture at way lower displayed signal levels.
Look at it this way. Strings and rulers and calculations told me that my scalar "had" to "be right here". Like a good soldier I complied. Signal sucked no matter how much I tweaked the lnbf and dish geometry (prime focus, polar mount). "Under Illumination" was a sure thing. Moved the scalar back a touch and did it again. Signal eventually floored the signal meter.
Reading is good. Yeah. Being able to do what you read (in science) is good too. That didn't get us on the moon though.

el bandido

Just because strings, rulers, calculations and whatever else did not apply or work on a homeowner dish that is 30- 40 years old does not meant that the calculations are bogus! Calculations for finding where to place things on a satellite dish antenna are highly accurate, But the calculations are no better than what they are being used on. A satellite antenna will change as it ages, and for antennas exposed to the outside elements, the changes that come with age are not good.

Calculations where a DVB-S/S2 signal will lock or unlock is also known and again are highly accurate, depending upon the piece of equipment providing the measurements. No FTA satellite receiver is going to be highly accurate at anything when it comes to signal measurements. Some work by the manufacturer was done on the Edision 4K receivers to ensure that we got a reasonable idea of signal measurements. But there is only so much you can do with a piece of equipment that was assembled for a few dollars in parts.

Shown below is a You Tube video that demonstrates the MIO 4K receiver displaying a satellite signal below lock. The transponders used for this video are "detuned", with one channel on 91 west C band playing without errors at 2-3 db snr. Another channel on 117w C band is shown playing at around 4 db snr without errors. The DVB-S2 3/4 fec transponder in the video locks at around 4 db while the 8psk 5/6 fec transponder locks at around 10 db. The Edision MIO 4K lock values for these transponders are real close to what is calculated. Not bad at all for a cheap FTA receiver.

I updated. The multi-satellite scan is working.

I notice something interesting. This occurred with new TNAP 5.1 even before today's update. If I use Positioner Setup to fine tune the dish with diseqc commands, save and exit, then if I change channels while still on the same satellite, the box crashes every time. My workaround is to exit Positioner Setup then change to an adjacent satellite. If I then move back to original satellite, the box doesn't crash.

[B]...Can you post your channel file named lamedb? This file is located in /etc/enigma2....
Recently when changing between images, I did ftp my backed-up lamedb and other user files to the Mio+. I just didn't want to lose all my C-band scans, etc. I bet you're going to say my lamedb is corrupted in some way. I always dislike doing this since it seems this causes trouble.

I just updated my Mio+ online, then I grabbed a copy of my current lamedb (attached). I renamed it .txt just so I could transfer it.

Updates are online that should solve most of the signal finder errors. These errors or complaints did not seem to bother anything, so I doubt fixing them helped. The Gstreamer error is what I find interesting. Why is a "Could not establish connection to server" error in there unless some type of ip issue is present? Anyway, do an online update and see what happens.

...Anyway, do an online update and see what happens.
Same symptom even after I updated. After exiting Positioner Setup, the display shows as attached. Note how Tuners A and C letters are not green. The Mio+ has always done this. So I must press the Up key to change channels to make the Mio+ "see" the channel even when there is only one channel scanned in such as on 129W Ku. But when I do this, the box crashes. If I press the Right or Left key to change satellites, then go back to the satellite, the box doesn't crash. This simple workaround isn't so bad at least until TNAP5.1 comes along when I won't restore user files; just create them fresh at that time maybe with exception of user bouquets which are a lot of work to re-create.

After few of this fine tuning and position saved, the box becomes sluggish: takes time to respond to the commands, even

This will be hard to fix without knowing what is running that caused this. What exactly were you using to do the tuning? Positioner setup?, Signal finder? Or ???. Does the box work normal now that it is rebooted?

You may also fine tune a c band actuator using Signal finder. The files for Signal finder recently changed. The files for Positioner setup have not been changed for months in TNAP 5.

I just fine - tuned back to back 89w, 91w, and 105w using Autofocus in Positioner setup. The debug log shows an error in Positioner setup, but nothing that should cause the spinner to activate. You usually only see the spinner when lots of resources are being used. Seems you have something running besides Positioner setup.

I don't think you understand. If nothing else was running, then your receiver would not work!

Several things are always running in the system. The spinner shows there is a slow down in the system. It is going to be hard to fix without seeing the problem as it does not exist here. You are not using a actuator and positioner...

A c band actuator usually has a controller or positioner. The controller or positioner has provisions for saving locations. A ku motor does not have these options.

Here is a good transponder to test the signal-below-lock feature. You need about 12.6 db for Lock and about 13.5 db for picture. This feed will be active for a while.

Satellite = 89w - c band

A manual motor start has been added to the blindscan plugin. I am not going to fool with trying to put tease features in the TNAP5 version and plan to add these updates to the 5.1 version.

Really there are only two ways to identify a satellite in a FTA receiver. The first way is to receive the satellite beacon, which is 100% accurate, but impossible AFAIK for a FTA satellite receiver to do. The second way is to use transponder signals.

Using transponder signals for satellite identification in a FTA receiver is nothing short of messy We do not have a decent source of transponder information that is updated regularly and contains the information needed for satellite identification. Shown in the video below is what I am talking about. At least half of the satellites viewable in North America do not have the first transponder in the satellites.xml list active.

Satellites come and go. Transponders are active, then become inactive....etc. There are dedicated groups in Europe who keep their satellites.xml list updated, but not a single person does that in North America. The exception would be the occasional person who posts to Lyngsat hoping their find will be added. Once something is added to Lyngsat in North America, it usually stays there for months or years after it becomes inactive. So Lyngsat is better than nothing, but almost useless.

TVROSAT is supposed to have accurate satellite listings, but much of their stuff is either outdated, wrong, or Both.

So the basic thing is an active satellite transponder needs to be installed First in the satellites.aml file for each orbit location both C and Ku band that are viewable in North America. Then the list has to be maintained else satellites will quit identifying when accessed by the blindscan plugin. The video below shows what that looks like. And this is exactly Why satellite identification is not in current TNAP images.

It would be nice to have every available satellite identify when called in the blindscan plugin. But in North America, that is probably more of a Pipe Smokin' Dream than anything else.

I always wondered why E2 receivers didn't do the same thing. There must be a secret.

I know you're interested in good bluetooth functionality. What about a proven USB BT dongle?

There is really no need to prove anything. I don't BS. I would invite you to do the same if you doubt me. I'm sure you must have a similar receiver in "the pile".
Matter of fact. When trying to hunt and store sats into my ASC-1 with the mio currently used. There was a bit of wtf trying to figure out which one I was on.
You know. The overlapping ku sat signals. I'm thinking like on 117-119 (example). Where the LO for 119 would have to been set at 11250 with the correct lnbf.
A blindscan results in transponders that just-don't-exist. Leading again to a scratch your ass and wtf!-mumble.
Until you realize you're getting bleed over from 119 (maybe). Dust off that T5. Slap it on the coax. Enter the tp's in question into the menu along with ones you know are...117. And wa-frikin'-la!
Toggle through them and the beacon ID shows right up in the screen. Ahh sweahs fo' god.
If anyone has an ASC-1 up for grabs Please let me know. As long as it works. I don't care about flaky relays. I've been parked on 127W for way too long.
Then we can drink a lot of beer and put fans in front of us and see who gets wet first. I'll post enough photos to have breakfast over.

The SF8008 Supreme with 2 identical AVL tuners enough is enticing. And the communities look as if the deficiencies are at least being identified. That's why I axed.
Getting out of the Broadcom chipset world into the new ones is a bit questionable as far as what the manufacturers are willing to address and modify code.

The TNAP5.1 test images should be online now under Flash image in receiver files..
Downloaded for osmio4kplus. The autoinstall worked well. Nice to have a new image installed and all my user files are as before the new install. So far, so good.

The band for a FTA receiver is usually 950-2150MHz. These are the frequencies that come from the lnb.
The Edision drivers were modified so the band is 700MHz to 2150. Unfortunately, there is no modification for the SF8008 that will allow this. So the Sf8008 will not work. Sorry.

It might be possible in the future to modify the SF8008 Supreme because it has AVL6261C. But not today...

Hello
it only works for "Edision" receivers.
in the plugins, the "extras" with this possibility is not present

Correct!
The Extra Plugins that allow the extended band can only be seen by Edision receivers. There is no need to show these Extra Plugins to other receivers besides Edision because they Do not work on other receiver models.
